[American Thinker] The Conservative Treehouse began a series on "The Fourth Branch of Government, the Intelligence Community." That series, along with Tucker Carlson's revelation that the NSA possibly spied on him and at the very least illegally unmasked him, has brought the Intelligence Community center stage. I usually do not think too much about the various security and intelligence functions of the government, other than to marvel that they have managed to prevent a second 9/11. In doing a bit of research, however, I have come to realize that the security function of our country is a tangled web of bureaucracy. Is that really what it takes to protect U.S. citizens, or is this a turf-building and protection operation?
The foundation of any security operation has to be the knowledge that is gathered and analyzed. In the case of the federal government, that foundation is provided by the Intelligence Community, or I.C., which is "responsible for collecting, analyzing, and delivering foreign intelligence and counterintelligence information to America's leaders so they can make sound decisions to protect our country." The I.C. is a coalition of 18 entities with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) integrating the intelligence gathered; however, the members do not report to the ODNI. The ODNI is a relatively new entity, created in 2005 at the recommendation of the 9/11 commission. The commission reported that prior to the 2001 disaster, there were clues about an impending attack, but no one person had a full picture because information was siloed. In typical bureaucratic fashion, the response was to create another level of infrastructure and expand government operations.
Below is a list of the 17 other members of the I.C. and their primary mission. Mission statements portrayed on the I.C. website have been paraphrased for a clearer understanding.

One of the big problems of the Intelligence Community is that you have to shade your output to what the POTUS is willing to hear. It does no good to give him accurate info if he is going to ignore you. This has been a problem since at least LBJ.
The other problem is the CIA lawyers. Many CIA procedures are twisted beyond recognition in order to bring them into compliance with legal.

So I get it, we love to complain. But lets put it in perspective, yesterday the was a near 200 rant event here on the burg. All arguing over the COVID shot. What's true? What's a lie? What's just a belief? etc... Then it gets angry, then it gets to attacking credibility. That whole event is a mirror of our intel community, NOBODY on that thread yesterday knows the truth, period. And in the intel community the truth is again, not known. Getting it right, just like the COVID discussion, is almost impossible and subject to more hard work and getting lucky, than factual. Every one, and every agency has their charter and and they make decision based on their views, just like in yesterdays thread.
After 911 they tried to reorganize to better facilitate sharing. But that did not work. Some of it was an unwillingness to share over operational, or personal, concerns. But what I saw was a group of agencies running at full speed and unable to take any more info. Like sharing gas for your car, but the tank is already full, most of the shared fuel goes to waste and not used. The intel shared did not have the appropriate screening for relevance due to too much info being processed. managing the load of info is overwhelming, then pass that on to another agency as an FYI, it gets lost.

The two biggest events of my lifetime and the intelligence community whiffed them both. Hopefully they are getting lots of others we don't hear about but I think some senators should open the books and see for themselves.
We can't do anything. It's chaos. The fact that they have file cabinets, databases, satellites and shoulder holsters doesn't change the fact that they are taking guesses like everyone else. But their guesses are polluted by the myths they live. The best anyone outside the game can do is try to stand out of the way, or ride the chaotic surf.

TW, I so agree. I'm not sure what the right answer is. Maybe cut their size and abilities down, by a large margin. They missed 911, all of them did, and it took ten years to find and get UBL. In some areas they are doing incredible things. It seems the leadership has been corrupted into politics completely. They seem to have aligned with the two parties and when an outsider comes in, Trump, they did nothing to defend him or even find the truth. They further went at it, for politics with the SC pick and investigation. It was a political hack job. Maybe move their headquarters to death valley and limit their travel to DC. Honestly I dont know how to fix corruption especially when the people that are supposed to be protecting us from it are running it.

My AF career what in imagery Intel. I've worked with the CIA (NPIC) and the DIA. The guys I met from the NSA concentrated on Eastern Europe. Thirty to fifty years ago, they were all good people, and mostly former military. There were a lot of us e enjoyed then that didn't trust Intel from State or some of the other agencies.

Biden is the perfect president for the bureaucracy, who are now firmly in charge. He does whatever they tell him to do. Any replacement might have ideas of his/her own, which the bureaucracy would not like. Therefore they will keep Joe forever.

Both the case numbers and fatalities were grossly exaggerated. Effective treatments were suppressed. Doctors who spoke out were silenced. But we can trust the vaccine, so nobody worry!

I don't know if this is the test but the one they had in late Trump had some kind of 'spinning' involved and my wife (a nurse) was telling me she believed they were overspinning which creates false-positives. Then after Biden was elected they reduced the recommended amount of spinning and the number of cases mysteriously dropped across the board.

I never bought into the hysteria, so I never bought gallons of overprices sanitizer, hundreds of masks that were useless, or wore glove when I was shopping.
Now, I can buy dusk masks and nitrile work gloves for pennies on the dollar.
I feel a bit sorry for people who bought into (and bought) the hype because they believed the lies. Just a bit, though.

Yeah, that was the PCR test. The test amplifies a small amount of DNA. How many cycles you run determines the degree of amplification. Doing too many cycles makes the test overly sensitive and you start picking up viral wreckage instead of actual virus particles. Hence, the false positives.

Anecdotal evidence for the usefulness of both HCQ and Ivermectin seems compelling and the risks are low --- but actual data-based scientific studies have not shown much, if any, benefit. It would be easier to believe those studies if the scientific 'community' had not damaged its credibility so severely with 'noble lies.'
What we see is a 62% reduction in the relative risk of dying among covid patients treated with ivermectin. That would mean that ivermectin prevents roughly three out of five covid deaths. The reduction is statistically significant (p-value 0,004). In other words, the weight of evidence supporting ivermectin continues to pile up. It is now far stronger than the evidence that led to widespred use of remdesivir earlier in the pandemic, and the effect is much larger and more important (remdesivir was only ever shown to marginally decrease length of hospital stay, it was never shown to have any effect on risk of dying).
I am a proponent of evidence based medicine. In other words, I think that medical diagnosis and treatment should be guided by the scientific evidence, not by expert opinion or personal anecdote, and certainly not by salespeople working for pharmaceutical companies.
