Gunshots interrupt online CLE city council discussion of street crime
[Cleveland.com] CLEVELAND, Ohio – An incident Wednesday that interrupted a discussion between Cleveland City Council members and Public Safety Director Karrie Howard about crime issues drove home a point.

As members of the council’s Public Safety Committee told Howard their residents wanted police to be more visible to deter crime, Councilman Joe Jones abruptly excused himself from the online meeting because he had heard gunfire outside of his ward office.

Jones, who represents Ward 1 in southeast Cleveland, said people were shooting at each other across Lee Road from his office building. Jones said he initially thought he was hearing firecrackers, but that he then realized it was gunshots.

“What the citizens are experiencing right now (watching the committee’s broadcast) is live crime TV,” Councilman Mike Polensek said. “That’s what we’re experiencing, what Councilman Jones is dealing with right now and what all of us are dealing with on a daily basis.”

Cleveland police confirmed there was a report of shots fired in that neighborhood shortly after 11 a.m.

The incident punctuated the conversation, during which Jones, Polensek, Brian Kazy and Kevin Bishop all raised concerns about how to get a lid on rising crime.

Minneapolis Mayor: ‘defund the police’ may have increased crime
[Hot Air] Minneapolis Mayor: You know, this "defund the police" thing may have increased crime

It’s been another week in Minneapolis that looks more like the wild west than a modern, midwestern city. On Sunday night, seven people were shot in multiple incidents, with one victim being killed. Another person was killed on Monday night. Meanwhile, arrests and prosecutions are lagging far behind these reported incidents.

People have been noticing and they are bringing their complaints directly to Mayor Jacob Frey when he ventures out to address the public. One pastor named Dale Hume came forward to say that the city’s efforts to defund the police haven’t worked and "you can obviously see that is not the solution." Perhaps somewhat surprisingly, Mayor Frey came out this week and said that he agrees with the Pastor.

"The violence needs to stop, its unacceptable. People deserve to feel safe in their neighborhood, they deserve to be able to send their kids out to the sidewalk to play and to recreate without bullets flying by. That’s unacceptable. We should be holding these perpetrators accountable," Frey said...

"It’s just the reality of the solution, you know. When you make big, overarching statements that we’re going to defund or abolish and dismantle the police department and get rid of all the officers, there’s an impact to that," Frey said. "Do we need massive change? Yes we do. We need accountability and culture shift within our department, and we need police."

Mayor Frey says he plans to release a plan later this week that includes laying out both safety and accountability.
Good luck getting the genie back in the bottle.
Itjust feels like this guy can't help himself. He makes a public statement saying that there's too much violent crime and that we need the police, but he immediately couches it with comments about needing "massive change" and accountability on the part of the cops. Do you suppose you might be able to work on that project after you put some of these murderers and gang bangers in jail?

Consumer Prices See Largest Yearly Jump Since 2008 as Evidence of Inflation Mounts
[NATIONALREVIEW] The Consumer Price Index (CPI), which tracks the cost of a variety of consumer goods as well as housing and energy prices, has risen 4.2 percent from a year ago, notably higher than the estimated 3.6 percent. It is the largest yearly increase since September 2008.

Even controlling for food and energy prices, the CPI was up three percent, higher than the estimated 2.3 percent. The 0.9 percent CPI increase from March, again controlling for food and energy prices, is the highest since April 1982.

This data comports with Americans’ everyday experiences. On Tuesday, the average price of a gallon of gas rose to $2.99, the highest figure since November 2014.

The news also contradicts the Biden administration’s line on the risk of inflation — that it’s nearly nonexistent.

#4  Just priced something. Same formula as always. Up from shy of $600 to shy of $700, and that is way below MSRP.

Makes me wonder how fast I need to sell items in order to afford the replacement.

I think it was about three months ago hyper devaluation was being discussed here, and that is without just losing 1/3 of the nation to the gasoline lines, another 1/3 still playing Covid games, and the Mississippi River being closed along with a huge East/West road transit point.

I believe we will be arriving at Destination Boneland sooner than we think.

Antrim County Audit Attorney Finds Audit Trail Logs Intentionally Scrubbed to Eliminate Evidence of Fraudulent Electronic Manipulation of Election Outcome
[The Last Refuge] A very interesting article and interview appears today that warrants everyone’s attention. In Michigan the lawsuit against Antrim County election officials continues. The lead attorney Matthew DePerno continues putting the evidence into the public and court record.

What the evidence shows is an intentional manipulation of the ballot counting systems that shifted votes from Trump to Biden, then the system was scrubbed of log-in details so the people who did the shifts would not be identified.

Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant to pay for violating law
[KOMONEWS] The Seattle Ethics and Elections Commission has ratified a settlement agreement with City Councilmember Kshama Sawant
...Socialist Seattle city council member who has difficulty distinguishing between her money and the city's...
in which she admitted improperly using city money and other resources to support a proposed ballot measure.

The Seattle Times reports the Monday vote means Sawant must pay the city $3,516. That's twice the amount she spent to promote a payroll tax on big businesses like Amazon.

The decision comes as a recall campaign is collecting signatures for a ballot initiative seeking Sawant's removal from office. In a statement Tuesday, Sawant described her ethics infraction as minor and blasted the recall effort as a right-wing attempt to quash her support at City Hall for workers and renters.

A group pushing to recall Sawant started mailing out signature requests late April.

The campaign said roughly 40,000 signature petitions were mailed out.

The group plans to start in-person signature gathering in the next few weeks. They need to gather 10,739 valid signatures to qualify for a special recall election.

Sawant, a socialist and vocal proponent of defunding Seattle police, fought the recall effort in court, calling it "completely unjust." But earlier this month the state Supreme Court allowed the recall effort to move forward.

Under state law, an elected official can be recalled after an involved process that begins with a recall filing submitted to the county's elections office. Once county workers have verified the filer’s complaint of charges have followed the proper technical requirements required by law, the request is forwarded to the county prosecutor’s office before a judge decides if the allegations rise to the level of a recall.

According to the Washington state Constitution, an elected official can be recalled if that politician, "has committed some act or acts of malfeasance or misfeasance while in office, or who has violated his oath of office."

The recall complaint against Sawant was filed by Capitol Hill resident Ernie Lou. He told KOMO News he believes Sawant has lost touch with her district and its constituents.

Sawant has gone through the courts to get the recall efforts halted, but judges have agreed to allow the recall process to proceed. A Superior Court judge had found that four complaints cited in the recall petition against Sawant did rise to the level of malfeasance, including that:

Sawant misused city resources in promoting a ballot initiative earlier this year regarding passage of a new tax on some of the city's largest employers.

Sawant participated in a march to Mayor Jenny Summer of Love Durkan
...Democrat Maress of Seattle, who allowed a chunk of the downtown of her city to be turned into an autonomous combat zone...
’s house last month, causing a breach that could have compromised the mayor's personal safety. Because of Durkan's previous work as a federal attorney, her home address is not widely known for security concerns.

Sawant delegated hiring and firing decisions of her office staff to her outside political groups identified as the National Executive Committee and Seattle Executive Committee of the Socialist Alternative.

After a loss in Superior court in October, Sawant appealed to the State Supreme Court, which published its ruling Thursday morning.

#2  There are limits to the damages courts can impose. The courts might have been able to force her to pay more, but the story says that she's paying back twice what she misused. It was a relatively small amount, all things considered. If she wasn't going to get a jail sentence, then this was the most that was going to happen to her.

Election integrity revelation: Detroit bragged that use of Zuckerberg funding ‘created a new normal'
[Just The News] In Detroit's report on the $7.4 million in grants it received from the Center for Tech and Civil Life (CTCL), a voter advocacy organization funded by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, the city said that a new normal had been created with how the election was run in 2020.

"We created a new expectation for the public, because we significantly increased the number of ways [a] voter can vote," reported the city's Department of Elections in the CTCL grant report, obtained by Just the News through a Freedom of Information Act request.

"We have created a new normal in terms of how voters expect to vote in the City of Detroit," reads the report. "The funding structure established must be preserved for future elections. We are requesting grant funds for the current year."

The grant reporting form includes a questionnaire. One of the questions is: "What did you do with the CTCL COVID-19 Response grant funds that you're most proud of?"

Detroit responded that the grant funds "allowed us to hire more quality staff because we were able to pay them more."

The city reported that more than three-quarters of its CTCL grant money ($5.6 million of $7.4 million) was spent on the category "Poll worker recruitment funds, hazard pay, and/or training expenses."

Re Detroit: These are the same jokers whose many "ways to vote" caused their 2016 election results to be so shoddy and riddled with "irregularities" that 40% of their precincts' votes were thrown out. They could not survive an audit when requested by Hillary Clinton after she challenged that election outcome.

Even the DEMOCRATS in Detroit admitted that their elections are garbage. And you expect them to reform themselves and REDUCE the number of fraudulent Democrat votes -- with Facebook $$$?

Forty percent fraud rate. And that was before all of 2020's absentee ballot bullshit.

Stacy Abrams Cashes In With NBCUniversal TV 'Project'
It's as big as a whale, and it's about to set sail!
[Hollywood Reporter] - Stacey Abrams has sold her new political thriller, While Justice Sleeps, for a television adaptation.

The Georgia politician and author’s novel was picked up after a bidding war by the NBCUniversal International Studios-owned production company Working Title Television.
She "wrote it" as much as James Patterson writes his 22 books a year
"I created While Justice Sleeps to unravel a political mystery about power and secrets through the eyes of a protagonist dealing with her own demons," Abrams said in a statement. "I am excited about the book’s release today, and I look forward to working with Working Title Television and Universal Studio Group to bring the intriguing world of Avery Keene to television."

The only 'demon' she's dealing with is the little red one on the side of this can.

Appeals Court: Federal Law Gives Right to Inspect Non-Citizen Voting
[BREITBART] The Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF) is marking its third win in the last few years on protecting the right to inspect state voter rolls for non-citizen registrations and voting.

The Fourth Circuit federal appeals court on Monday ruled in favor of PILF in its lawsuit against the North Carolina State Board of Elections, vacating a lower court’s decision blocking the inspection of the state’s voter rolls for non-citizen registrations and voting.

"North Carolina had tried to prevent the public from inspecting records related to noncitizens registering and voting in our elections," PILF President J. Christian Adams said in a statement.

"Federal law presumes that election records are public," Adams said. "The Fourth Circuit vacated the lower court’s dismissal of the case. This is an important win because it means that the public’s right to know about election vulnerabilities has been vindicated."

The Richmond-based appeals court concluded "that the Board’s efforts in the present case to identify non-citizen registrants qualify as a ’program’ or ’activity’ to ensure an accurate list of eligible voters."

In June 2019, PILF filed the lawsuit against North Carolina election officials after they failed to disclose voter roll records showing non-citizen registrations and voting. A lower court, though, dismissed PILF’s lawsuit claiming such records could not be disclosed to the public.

The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, though, ruled in favor of PILF having a right to inspect North Carolina’s voter rolls for non-citizen registrations and voting, remanding the dismissal by the lower court.

"Because discovery was not conducted, we cannot discern on this record whether [PILF] may be entitled to disclosure of some of the documents requested," the opinion stated.

"The record here shows that, at a minimum, the Board has disclosed to the United States Attorney documents involved in grand jury investigations of 789 individuals statewide," the opinion continued.

While PILF will now go back to court to negotiate over the records, this is the third win for PILF on protecting the right to inspect state voter rolls for non-citizen registrations and voting since 2019.

Maria Cantwell Uses Anti-China Plan to Possibly Steer $10 Billion Moon Landing Contract to Bezos-Owned Space Company in Her State
[BREITBART] Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-WA), the powerful chairwoman of the Senate Commerce Committee, plans to attempt to use a bipartisan piece of legislation meant to counter the Chinese Communist Party’s technological advances to instead steer what could end up being a huge boon of a federal contract worth billions of dollars to a company operating in her home state owned by billionaire Jeff Bezos.

Cantwell, the chair of the panel that will consider the supposedly anti-China bill on Wednesday, is proposing amendment language to the plan that would authorize a second contract from NASA for a key part of the Artemis program that aims to put Americans back on the moon soon. NASA, through the Artemis program, awarded a contract last month for what is called a Human Landing System (HLS) to billionaire Elon Musk’s SpaceX company, a direct competitor of Bezos’s Blue Origin company.

Both Musk’s and Bezos’s companies competed for the HLS contract in the Artemis program, as did another firm called Dynetics. SpaceX won the deal, NASA announced on April 16, in a hyped-up blurb that was headlined: "As Artemis Moves Forward, NASA Picks SpaceX to Land Next Americans on Moon."

"SpaceX’s HLS Starship, designed to land on the Moon, leans on the company’s tested Raptor engines and flight heritage of the Falcon and Dragon vehicles," NASA’s blurb stated. "Starship includes a spacious cabin and two airlocks for astronaut moonwalks. The Starship architecture is intended to evolve to a fully reusable launch and landing system designed for travel to the Moon, Mars, and other destinations."

The contract with SpaceX is worth $2.89 billion and is for Musk’s company to develop what is called the Human Landing System to land American astronauts on the moon for the first time in decades. In addition to the blurb announcing that SpaceX won the deal, NASA released a video further explaining how Blue Origin and Dynetics had also been competing for the contract but that SpaceX won it in the end:

Border surge: Kamala Harris not doing too well on all those 'root causes' she's still looking for
[AMERICANTHINKER] Kámala Harris
Former Oakland mayor Willie Brown's former mistress, then a senatrix from California, former 2020 Dem presidential hopeful, and now Joe Biden's wing nut. She's displaying her level of competence in her hanling of the Biden Border Surge
got fact-checked on a junk statistic she cited in her big keynote speech about all that work on "root causes" she says she's doing to halt the border surge from Central America.

It's pretty embarrassing.

According to left-wing "fact-checker" PolitiFact:

For more than a decade, an interesting statistic about the cost of corruption has been bouncing around the global-economics community, showing up in statements and reports from organizations like the United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
and the World Economic Forum.

Most recently, it came out of the mouth of Vice President Kamala Harris.

"Around the world, we know that corruption inhibits shared prosperity," Harris said May 4, at a conference on the Americas, where she touted the Biden administration’s plans to address the root causes of immigration. "In fact, the global cost of corruption is as much as 5% of the world's GDP."

"Five percent," she repeated for emphasis.

Politifact wrote that no one knows whether that figure is true. It was a figure cited several years ago by a United Nations official, averaging together the output of Western democracies, communist dictatorships, Islamist-fanatic dumps, and third-world hellholes and dividing it by the total corruption.

In her 13-minute keynote address on May 4 to the Council of the Americas, an establishment organization with a leftward tilt, but many knowledgeable people nonetheless, that was her big revelation.

It must have sent eyes rolling, given that it's highly irrelevant to the three countries she's supposedly focusing on: El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala. The denizens of COA would know the corruption in the Northern Triangle countries is a whole lot more. Honduras, for instance, has a president who's been indicted by the U.S. Treasury for involvement in the drug trade. That's a fish head that stinks from the top and goes all the way down. Harris hasn't exactly decided to have a talk with him.

But just for a moment, let's take Kamala at her word.

In the example of Honduras, GDP was last reported at $25 billion. Five percent of $25 billion is $1.25 billion. Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. Former Senator-for-Life from Delaware, an example of the kind of top-notch Washington intellect to be found in the World's Greatest Deliberative Body....
, however, is making much of that up with a $4-billion U.S. aid donation spread over four years for the three countries, according to his action plan. Combine it with the aid from the United Nations, the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
, the foundations, and the big corporate investors Kamala cited, and all the corruption should be covered, right?

Actually, the corruption should expand, given that much of it flows from foreign aid, according to the sources of corruption listed by the 2020 annual Corruption Perceptions Index for Central America, put out by Transparency International. Harris might want to read it.

head Mansour Abbas on Thursday, telling Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid the idea was off the table.

Lapid, who has a mandate to form a government until June 2, called a 9 p.m. press conference to respond.

Bennett cited the recent spate of violence between Arabs and Jews in mixed cities.

"I am removing the change government from the agenda," Bennett said. "A change government, with the makeup planned cannot deal with the problems in mixed cities. These are things that cannot be done when relying on Mansour Abbas."

Bennett said he was working on forming what he called a wide unity government with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, New Hope leader Gideon Sa'ar, Blue and White chairman Benny Gantz and Lapid. He said he opposed going to a fifth election in two and a half years.

Gantz did not respond, because he was in a military bunker, but his ministers all tweeted that they remain committed to a government of change.

Sources close to Bennett said he was pessimistic that such an agreement could be reached.

One idea raised by a source close to Bennett in a private conversation on Wednesday was a three-way rotation in the Prime Minister's Office: First Bennett for a year and a half, then Netanyahu for two years and then six months for Sa'ar.

Earlier Thursday, Bennett's number two in Yamina, MK Ayelet Shaked, called for bringing the IDF into mixed cities to restore order. Bennett endorsed the idea, knowing that it would prevent a coalition with Ra'am.

Abbas said in an interview with Army Radio on Thursday morning that the violence in the mixed cities should not end chances of forming a coalition that has the support of Jewish and Arab MKs. He told interviewers Udi Segal and Keren Marciano that he stopped coalition talks, because they would be inappropriate in such a sensitive time. But he said they would be restarted immediately after the escalation ends.

"I am not giving up on future cooperation," Abbas said. "It could be that these incidents emphasize the need for true partnership with understanding, initiating together."

Abbas went further, saying that a partnership of Jews and Arabs was "a goal in itself" and not merely "an instrument to something else." The Ra'am leader said "protests are legitimate" but must be done within the law and without harming anyone.

In an interview with Channel 12, Abbas said he would not rule out supporting direct elections for prime minister.

#1  Nothing like a whiff of grapeshot, or 1000+ rockets reaching half the country, to clear one’s mind. Naftali Bennett is reportedly as brilliant and Americanized as his former mentor, Bibi.
