Florida’s Crackdown on Sanctuary Cities Begins
[FRONTPAGEMAG] Florida appears poised to join a righteous law-and-order backlash against so-called sanctuary cities that shield and harbor illegal aliens in defiance of the nation’s immigration laws, after a pro-immigration enforcement bill passed the state’s House of Representatives.

The Sunshine State was home to 775,000 illegal aliens in 2016, according to Pew Research Center.

The state is also home to 15 municipalities that are sanctuary cities, according to Floridians for Immigration Enforcement, which prefers to label those jurisdictions “anarchy cities.”

“Not only do they disobey the law, but I question their loyalty to this country,” David Caulkett, the group’s vice president, said last month.

A bill that cracks down on sanctuary jurisdictions that refuse to cooperate with federal immigration authorities easily passed the GOP-controlled Florida House and now has a good chance at being approved by the Republican-dominated Florida Senate.

Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican, urged lawmakers to approve legislation taking aim at the state’s outposts of immigration lawlessness.

“I’m asking the Legislature to send me a bill during this legislative session to address sanctuary cities and counties in Florida,” DeSantis tweeted February 26. “I’m also calling on more local law enforcement to work with the federal government to ensure our immigration laws are enforced and justice is upheld.”

The House in Tallahassee approved HB 527, the proposed “Rule of Law Adherence Act,” on a vote of 69 to 47 on April 24. Its sponsors are Republican Reps. Cord Byrd and Erin Grall.

Afghanistan
Ghani Inaugurates Afghanistan’s Parliament
[ToloNews] President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
inaugurated the 17th legislative term of the Afghan parliament ‐ the Wolesi Jirga ‐ on Friday at a time that the final results of five provinces, including Kabul, have not been announced so far.

Based on the law, the parliament should have been inaugurated last year in March, but it was delayed due to "controversies" around the October parliamentary elections.

Addressing the ceremony, Ghani said that the majority of the new members of the parliament are from the young generation who will protect women's rights, human rights
...which often include carefully measured allowances of freedom at the convenience of the state...
and other rights of Afghans.

He added that the government did not have any role in the delay in parliament inauguration.

Ghani said a deadline should be set for the announcement of final results of Kabul in the parliamentary elections.

The current challenges in Afghanistan are due to the imposed war in the country which has been fueled by "direct foreign support" of the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
, Ghani said.

Ghani said the so-called al-Fatha offensive by the Taliban has been a "failed" attempt.

He added that Afghanistan is no longer dependent on one country in terms of trade and transit and that the Afghan government is in favor of connectivity.

Ghani said he remains as President of Afghanistan until the upcoming presidential elections -- scheduled for September 28.

He mentioned that the key to peace lies is in unity among Afghans, in women’s participation and in the courage of the Afghan forces and that the Republic system will continue.

Why is Afghanistan's upcoming grand jirga significant?
[DAWN] Afghanistan on Monday will convene a rare "loya jirga" ‐ a massive meeting for delegates from across the country to discuss the war and United States efforts to forge a peace deal with the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
More than 2,000 people have been invited to gather amid tight security for four days of debate under a large tent in Kabul.

Here is a look at the history of loya jirgas, and what to expect from this one.

WHAT IS A LOYA JIRGA?
A loya jirga ‐ literally "grand assembly" in Pashto ‐ is traditionally comprised of Afghan elders.

Such gatherings have a centuries-old history in Afghan culture and are periodically convened to reach a consensus on major political issues.

The most recent jirga was held in 2013, when Afghan officials endorsed a security agreement that allowed US troops to stay in Afghanistan beyond their planned withdrawal in 2014.

In August 2007, the first joint Afghan-Pakistain jirga was held in Kabul after relations between the neighbours deteriorated amid Afghan accusations that Pakistain was harbouring Taliban and al-Qaeda gunnies.

In 2003, former president Sibghatullah Mojaddedi chaired a loya jirga that approved Afghanistan's new constitution for a post-Taliban era.

The events usually comprise political figures, religious scholars, teachers, activists and community leaders. Delegates typically break into smaller groups to tackle various matters.

WHAT IS ON THE AGENDA?
The upcoming loya jirga is being held at a time when the US and Talibs have held several rounds of talks. The two sides have discussed a possible troop withdrawal from Afghanistan in exchange for a ceasefire and various pledges from the Taliban.

But crucially, the talks have thus far cut out the government of President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
, whom the Taliban view as a US stooge.

Ghani's government is jostling for influence in the peace talks and the jirga aims to set out Kabul's red lines for any deal, including the continuation of the constitution and the protection of women's rights, the media, and free speech.

Ghani has invited the Taliban to participate, but the turbans, having waged an unrelenting guerrilla war since 2001, have predictably refused.

In the past, the Taliban have blasted rockets at the loya jirga tent, and much of Kabul is being locked down under a massive security operation for this year's event.

In a statement, the Taliban vowed that any decisions or resolutions made at a loya jirga are "never acceptable to the real and devout sons of this homeland".

He's fighting the UN-recognized Libyan version of the Taliban (which is why it is supported by both the UN and Qatar). Lot of Islamists looking for a one-way ticket to paradise. Except Haftar doesn't have the American air support that made easing Gaddafi out so painless.

Europe
Germans increasingly hostile towards asylum-seekers
[DW] More than half of Germans view asylum-seekers in a negative light, a new study shows. Prejudice against the newcomers has grown even as fewer migrants come to Germany.

Right-wing populist attitudes have become "normal" in Germany's mainstream, said authors of a new study presented by the left-wing Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Berlin on Thursday.
To the right of the left wing? That could place them anywhere from slightly less left to centrist to actually far right — whatever that last means nowadays.
"The center is losing its footing and its democratic orientation," researchers said.
Sez Lefties, anyway.
The foundation has released reports on right-wing extremism since 2002. The latest study, conducted by a group of researchers from Bielefeld University, shows that a record 54.1% of the respondents across Germany now hold a negative view of asylum-seekers.
How very odd, given the angelic behaviour of the invaders as recorded in our admittedly spotty archives.
The numbers are higher now than they were ahead of the refugee crisis in 2014, when 44% of Germans expressed concerns about the group. In 2016, after the peak of the migration wave, the survey showed 49.5% of people were negative about asylum-seekers.

According to the study presented on Thursday, these attitudes are more common in former East Germany, now home to less than a quarter of the country's population, where 63% were found to harbor such attitudes, while 51% did so in western Germany. The survey also shows that the level of prejudice has grown even as fewer people applied for asylum in Germany.
A cute little table at the link shows 890,000 applied for asylum in 2015, 280,000 in 2016, and 186,644 in 2017. There is no table showing how many turned out to be registered in a variety of places under a variety of names, nor how many have disappeared from the rolls and the knowledge of Man.

Assyrians in Sweden consider forming police force after receiving death threats
[ALMASDARNEWS] Assyrians in Sweden are facing threats of violence from a number of people, the Syriac National Federation told the Swedish newspaper Samhällsnytt this week.

On Monday, the Syriac National Federation published a Facebook post in which they reveal a number of threats they have received from Arabic-speaking people.

According to the post, the Syriac National Federation has contacted the police in Sweden about these threats; however, nothing has been done to ensure their security.

Several members of the group commented on the post and called on the SNF to create a police force to deal with these threats.

One user said, "We must get our own police!"

The SNF said they have received threats on several occasions, with little to no action taken by the police.

"It’s a little different. They can, for example, accuse us of going to Western countries’ in the Middle East and being traitors. At one point they said they will do the same with us in Sweden as they did in the Middle East," the SNF said.

When asked what these threats mean, the SNF said it "is the genocide that has been carried out in the Middle East against Christians. We have moved these groupings to Sweden, but they have caught up with us here."

"We expect some fucking civil war between different groups if someone does not put down his foot. The people who did terrible acts in the Middle East, they are here now ... and no one seems to care," they continued.

According to previous information for Social News, there is a widespread feeling of resignation among Syrians in Sweden that concerns the rule of law’s ability to protect them and prosecute crimes.

Salvini Demands Security Services Increase Observation of Islamic Cultural Centres
[BREITBART] Populist Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini has outlined proposals for the security services to do more to observe and root out extremism in the country’s Islamic cultural centres.

Salvini made his case for increased security measures during a presser this week at the Interior Ministry, highlighting the recent Sri Lanka terror attack that killed some 250 people over the Easter weekend, saying that Italians needed more clarification on the hard boy elements within the Islamic community, Il Giornale reports.

The populist League party leader also singled out an incident that occurred in Rome this week in which a Moslem migrant had stabbed a homeless Georgian man on a bus after noticing his crucifix necklace. "Rome does not deserve certain scenes," Salvini said in reference to the incident and added that it did need more security.

"According to the data of the updated census of Islamic presences in Italia to date there are 1,382 Islamic cultural associations, of which 1,068 are also used as a place for prayer," Salvini said and added, "Obviously it is full of good people but there are also realities underlined by the police to identify the presence of fanatics and hard boys."

One of the proposed measures will see police and security services take more time to find out what is being preached inside mosques and cultural centres in order to have better control over forms of extremism and avoid radical hate preaching.

The populist Italian coalition government has already been particularly effective at combatting terrorist plots and has led Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
in the number of deportations of migrant jihadists.

Panel recommends action against people involved in polio scare
[DAWN] PESHAWAR: A committee of senior health officials formed by government to investigate the polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
scare on Monday last has recommended legal proceedings against the union council members, owners of private schools and individuals involved in the propaganda against the vaccine.

The committee also suggested adopting a comprehensive strategy to woo the parents to vaccinate their children to eradicate the vaccine-preventable childhood ailment.

It said that use of loudspeakers in mosques should be regulated and standard operating procedures for prayer leaders should be put in place to prevent propaganda against the anti-polio vaccine.

Iraq: Yazidis to accept children of IS rape into community
[Ynet] The children of Yazidi women raped by Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
men will be welcomed into the minority faith, a community leader said Thursday, allowing women taken as slaves by the Death Eater group to return to Iraq from Syria.

Eido Baba Sheikh, son of the Yazidi spiritual leader Baba Sheikh, said the children of the formerly enslaved women will be treated as members of the faith, resolving one of the most difficult questions facing the community since the Islamic State group's 2014 campaign to try to exterminate the minority. Thousands of women and girls were forced into sexual slavery when the gunnies attacked Yazidi communities in northwestern Iraq.

But the community shunned the women returning from captivity with children, a reflection of the deeply held Yazidi traditions to view outsiders with suspicion as a response to centuries of persecution.

More than 7,000 Syrians quit camp near Jordan border: UN
How many more have wandered home, all unnoticed?
[AlAhram] More than 7,000 people have left a desperate desert camp for displaced Syrians near the Jordanian border since March, a United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
spokesperson said Friday.

According to the UN's humanitarian coordination office OCHA, around 36,000 people remained in the isolated Rukban camp near al-Tanf base used by the US-led coalition fighting the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group, after over 4,000 left between March and April 21.

The Syrian government and key backer Russia said in February they had opened corridors out of the camp, calling on residents to leave.

"Since March, over 7,300 people have left Rukban," OCHA front man David Swanson told AFP, including some 3,000 who left after April 21.

Those who have quit the camp have moved to collective shelters in the central city of Homs or resettled in their areas of origin in the province of the same name, OCHA said Thursday.

It said Rukban residents were organising their own transportation to the edge of a de-escalation zone established around al-Tanf, from where they either continued in their vehicles or were transferred by private or government-provided vehicles to four collective shelters in Homs city.

The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says those returning to government-held parts of Homs from Rukban had struck so-called "reconciliation deals" with the Syrian government. Conditions inside Rukban are dire, with many surviving on just one simple meal a day, often bread and olive oil or yoghurt, according to one resident.

The camp has been particularly difficult to reach due to its location on the Jordanian border and the proximity of US forces and the rebels they support. In February, a humanitarian convoy of 133 trucks delivered food, clothes, healthcare items and medical supplies to the camp's residents. The February 6 delivery was just the second in three months.

ISIS has plans to retake Palmyra from Syrian Army
Planning is easy. Execution requires enemy agreement.
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS/ISIS/IS/ISIS) terrorist group is allegedly planning an offensive to retake the ancient city of Palmyra in the eastern countryside of the Homs Governorate.

A source from the Syrian Army in eastern Homs said they have discovered an Islamic State plot to not only retake land in central Syria, but also recapture the key city of Palmyra in the process.

The source said the Islamic State knows capturing Palmyra would be a great benefit to them because the Syrian and Russian air forces can only carry out limited Arclight airstrikes in the area because of the historical relics that present in the city.

Furthermore, Palmyra is isolated along the strategic Homs-Deir Ezzor Highway, which means the terrorist group can carry out more ambushes against the Syrian Army.

The Islamic State has already captured Palmyra on two separate occasions; both times, the Syrian military had to send their special forces to help retake the city from the terrorist group.

With their successful attack on al-Kawm last week, the Islamic State has proven that they are capable of carrying out surprise offensives and capturing territory that is supposed to well-guarded by the Syrian Arab Army and their allies.

U.S. Aims Lethal Blow at Tehran’s Finances by Prohibiting Oil Exports
[FDD.ORG] Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced yesterday that the U.S. would stop granting the waivers that have allowed select importers to continue purchasing Iranian oil after the return of U.S. sanctions last November. By targeting an indispensable source of income for the holy manal regime, the Trump administration took a major step toward implementing its policy of maximum pressure.

When the U.S. reinstated sanctions on Iran, it granted waivers to eight countries, allowing them to import slightly more than 1 million barrels of oil per day for a period of six months. The waivers are officially known as Significant Reduction Exceptions, or SREs. Despite the U.S. allowance of 1 million barrels per day, actual Iranian exports reached 1.7 million barrels per day in March, a difference worth tens of millions of dollars per day to Tehran.

Reducing Iran’s exports to zero, or even to less than 500,000 barrels per day, might strike a lethal blow to the regime’s finances. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s budget proposal for 2019 assumes exports of 1.5 million barrels per day at most and an average price of $54 per barrel; the resulting income would cover about $20 billion of the $47 billion Rouhani plans to spend.

While stopping the waivers is a logical extension of the president’s policy of maximum pressure on Iran, Pompeo’s announcement confounded the expectations of oil market analysts who assessed that Trump would shy away from any move that risked a major increase in gasoline prices for American consumers. With Venezuela’s exports down sharply and new unrest threatening Libyan and Algerian oil production, the potential cost of slashing Iranian exports has risen. The price of oil has already risen 40 percent in 2019, although it began the year just above $50 per barrel, at the low end of its range for the past five years.
