Africa North
Explosion at Brega-Benghazi gas pipeline
[Libya Herald] An kaboom hit the gas pipeline connecting Brega and Benghazi last night, Tuesday. It happened at near Ajdabiya, according to Libyan news agency LANA. The reason for the kaboom is not known, however it is thought to have been accidental and not caused by terrorists. No one was injured.

The 260-kilometre 34-inch pipeline, run by Brega Petroleum Marketing, carries gas from the Brega plant to Benghazi's gas oil terminal and feeds Benghazi North Power Station, 14 kilometres north of the city. It appears that the supply has not been affected. There have been no outages in Benghazi.

Solidarity Press has quoted the head of the local military brigade guarding oil installations in eastern Libya, Hussein Dinali, as saying that there had been no damage but it was also reported that there was a fire at the pipeline.

The Benghazi North station also runs on oil.

Sources working at international oil companies (IOC), speaking to Libya Herald today on strict basis of anonimity, confirmed that the incident was accidental. However,

they predicted that unfortunately, unless the NOC and its subsidiaries are allocated some funds for urgent repairs and upgrading, such incidents are likely to re-occure.

Thank goodness it appears to be maintenance related, and not a spontaneous expression of anger over a lousy video.

Bangladesh
Blogger Asif arrested
[Bangla Daily Star] Detectives yesterday enjugged
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
blogger Asif Mohiuddin, who had been attacked by Islamist fanatics in January following alleged postings on the Internet "comments derogatory to Islam and Prophet Muhammad (PTUI!)".

The arrest comes a day after police captured bloggers Subrata Adhikari Shuvo, Rasel Pervez and Moshiur Rahman Biplob in the capital in connection with similar offences.

A team of Detective Branch of police picked up Mohiuddin around 2:00pm yesterday at his sister's Segunbagicha home, where he had been staying since January 13 when he was stabbed by fanatics at Uttara.

The arrests came amid strong criticism over the government's role, which many termed as "submissive", after some radical Islamist organizations threatened to unleash anarchy if the "atheist bloggers are not hanged".

Many think the arrests would add to the growing frustrations of the youths and online activists who had been agitating from the platform Gonojagoron Mancha since February 5 demanding death penalty for all war criminals. The three bloggers arrested Tuesday were affiliated with the platform.

Mollah Nazrul Islam, deputy commissioner of the Detective Branch, yesterday said, "We have arrested Asif as he had posted many pieces insulting Prophet Muhammad (PTUI!) and Islam on different blogs and pages."

Nazrul said, "He [Asif] had been continuing his activities even after being attacked."

Hours after the arrest of three bloggers and before his own arrest, Asif via facebook condemned and protested the arrests.

He said, "To drag religion into politics and playing with it like a football is the real offense towards religion. So separating religion from the state is the primary concern of the blogger community in Bangladesh, and also to save religions from being insulted."

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Blasts in Ingushetia kill one, injure five
One police officer was killed and five other security officers injured by landmines in the Russian republic of Ingushetia. The explosions were attributed to Islamist terrorists insurgents who regularly stage violent attacks in the North Caucasus region.

Three Russian service members were injured in the first attack about noon Tuesday in the Sunzhensky District, next-door to the republic of Chechnya. Another landmine blew up when officers arrived at the scene of the first blast, injuring three Interior Ministry officers. One of them, a deputy chief of Ingushetia's riot police, died later at the hospital.

NORK defector in South crosses western sea border
Seoul (ANTARA News/Yonhap) - A NORK defector who was living in South Korea crossed the tensely guarded western sea border on a fishing boat he stole, military officials said Thursday, amid high tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

Lee Hyeok-chul, 28, stole a 9-ton crab fishing boat on the border island of Yeonpyeong and sailed across the maritime border called the Northern Limit Line (NLL) in the Yellow Sea at 10:49 p.m. on Wednesday.
Time to get back, make report, eat lousy food again.

#9  Once again, I'm more concerned about all the USDOD strike assets around CONUS that are in stand-down due to the sequester.

E.g PEARL HARBOR 12/07/1941 = the US Pacific Fleet can't come to MacArthur's rescue in the PHIL, i.e. from EASTPAC to WESTPAC/East Asia, iff the same fleet [heavy capital ships] is sunk or mostly sunk at its home base/port back in Hawaii or US West Coast = CONUS, now can it???

The US expected Japan to strike close to home, to include the PHIL + Guam, BUT NOT AS FAR EAST AS HAWAII LET ALONE THE US WEST COAST = CONUS.

OOOOOOOOOPPPPSSSSSS ... ...

FYI UOG's Professor Ron McNinch believes that it is highly unlikely the DPRK has anything that can hit Guam at this time - HOWEVER, PROFESSOR MCNINCH THINKS THE DPRK MAY BE ABLE TO THREATEN GUAM WID SUBMARINE-LED "INFILTRATING AGENTS" [DPRK SPECOPS + Fifth Columnists] WHOM WILL LIKELY WORK TO "DESTABILIZE" + SABOTAGE GUAM'S LOCAL INFRASTRUCTURE.

Great White North
Investigation reveals third possible Canadian terror suspect
A CBC investigation has identified a third man from London, Ontario with possible links to a terrorist attack on an Algerian gas plant last January.

Aaron Yoon attended London South Collegiate and was a classmate of Xristos Katsiroubas and Ali Medlej, two men identified on Monday as being among 29 Islamist terrorists extremists who stormed the plant and held hundreds of workers hostage for four days.

Yoon travelled to North Africa with Katsiroubas and Medlej, but according to sources, he was arrested and detained before the attack, which was planned in Mali and launched from Libya. Yoon remains in a North African prison.

Reports said that Katsiroubas and Medlej had been under surveillance since at least 2007, and that investigators had been speaking to community members in London as recently as June — just less than eight months before the attack.

Both Katsiroubas and Medlej are believed to have killed themselves in the final hours of the attack, which ended after an Algerian military assault. More than three dozen oil workers were killed in the attack.

LeJ-linked killers of Prof Sibte Jaffar arrested in Karachi: police
[Dawn] Crime Investigation Department claimed to have locked away
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
a notorious member and Ameer of the banned myrmidon outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi
... a 'more violent' offshoot of Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain. LeJ's purpose in life is to murder anyone who's not of utmost religious purity, starting with Shiites but including Brelvis, Ahmadis, Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Rosicrucians, and just about anyone else you can think of. They are currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of al-Qaeda ...
(LeJ) on Wednesday.

Speaking with the media, SSP CID Operations, Fayyaz Ahmed Khan informed that the LeJ Ameer, Sheikh Mohammad Athar alias Khalid/Anwar/Athar Kaala and his accomplice, Mohammad Shahid alias Chooran, confessed to killing principal of Degree College, Liaquatabad, Syed Sibte Jaffar Zaidi.

Mr Zaidi was a professor and a renowned soz khwan.

The killers associated with the Naeem Bukhari splinter group of LeJ, known to work in alliance with Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP),were arrested from the Surjani Town area of Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
"They have confessed to killing a lot of other people, but we are still confirming the information," Khan said while addressing the media at the Civil Lines head quarter of CID, the same building where a powerful blast destroyed in November 2010.

The CID also seized a large amount of weapons from the men, including: two hand grenades, two Kalashnikov rifles, two 30-Bore TT pistols, five detonators, a cap with a high resolution camera for "surveillance" purposes, 75 bullets and explosives weighing 10 Kg along with ball bearing and nails.

Both men were planning to target election campaign to be held by political officials in the coming days, according to SSP Khan.

Working in small splinter groups spread across Karachi, Khan said that police and Rangers were also on their hit list, apart from high profile politicians in the city.

When asked about how such high profile forces of Evil managed to get away after being arrested, Khan said that it was due to lack of evidence.

"Even the judges and lawyers are scared to take up their (the myrmidons) cases. So how can we expect witnesses to show up with evidence?" he replied.

Khan explained that apart from targeting high profile politicians, media personnel and members of the Shia community in particular were also on their hit list. "They (militants) get their training from Wazoo. The groups not only know each other but also support each other in carrying out their operations."

Pakistani Taliban claim responsibility of Karachi Rangers attack
[Dawn] The Pak Taliban have grabbed credit for the attack on Rangers force in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
which killed four security personnel and injured four others on Wednesday.

Speaking to Dawn.Com from some holy man's guesthouse an undisclosed location, outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) front man Ehsanullah Ehsan said that the rangers had been targeted because of their enmity towards Taliban.

Four Rangers personnel were killed and as many injured when a van carrying a dozen of paramilitary soldiers came under attack in Karachi's Korangi neighbourhood earlier this evening.

The Rangers, along with police, had been carrying out operations against gunnies and criminal gangs in the metropolis.

The TTP front man said that the law enforcement agencies are protectors of secular rulers who had been following "the outsiders' agenda and are part of a secular system."

To a query about attack on the WAPDA grid station in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
and the brutal killings of WAPDA officials, he said, "No we are not involved and we disown this attack, we have no role in it."

Ehsan remarked that attacks on WAPDA, PTCL and public interests installations are against the policy of the Taliban.

To a query, that whether the TTP had changed their policy of attacking government installations like, schools, hospitals, WAPDA and other administrative offices, he said, "Yes we would no more be attacking the public interests buildings and civic organizations, and condemn such attacks."

"We have not kidnapped any official from the Badbher area as we don't know who had attacked the grid station," he replied to a query.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pool hall, Peoria Slim had found another sucker...
the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has said in a blurb that the Taliban are disowning the attack to avert immense social pressure mounted on them.

"Credible and irrefutable evidence reveals that snuffies (TTP) had targeted Sheikh Muhammad Grid Station in Peshawar's Badbher area, killing seven police and WAPDA officials and causing huge financial loss amounting to billions of rupees to the national exchequer," said the blurb.

Blast near Karachi checkpost kills four Rangers personnel
[Dawn] An kaboom near a checkpost of Rangers force killed four security personnel and injured at least four others in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
's Korangi neighbourhood on Wednesday, DawnNews reported quoting security officials.

Initial reports suggest that at least eight people including security personnel sustained injuries when a bomb went kaboom! near headquarters of the Rangers force in Korangi No.5 area.

"It was a kaboom, the target seems to be a van of carrying soldiers," police official Karim Khan told AFP.

The blast happened near the Rangers' headquarters in the city's eastern district of Korangi, he added.

Four of the injured shuffled off the mortal coil when they were being taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

Meanwhile,
...back at the saloon, Butch got the bill for the damage caused by the fist fight, the mirror broken in the shootout, and drinks for everyone......
Pak Taliban front man Ehsanullah Ehsan has grabbed credit, saying they targeted the Rangers for working against them.

"We received seven maimed soldiers, three of them expired later," senior doctor Seemi Jamali said, adding that two were at death's door.

A front man of Rangers has confirmed the number of causalities and said that a vehicle of the Rangers forces, with a dozen personnel on board, was returning from duty when attacked by unidentified myrmidons. The vehicle was completely damaged in the blast, said the front man, adding that a hand grenade or a cracker was hurled at the vehicle.

The front man identified the dear departed as Irfan, Amanat, Majid and Saifullah.

The blast spread fear among the locals residents as shops and small businesses were reportedly shut after the incident.

Police and security agencies have cordoned off the site and the media is prohibited to enter the area.

"It was an attack on the Rangers' pickup truck," senior police officer Tahir Naveed confirmed. "An bomb, most probably a hand grenade was hurled into the moving van causing the casualties," Naveed told AFP.

The attack might be linked to operations being carried out by Rangers against gunnies and criminals gangs in the city, he added.

Taking notice of the incident, Caretaker Prime Minister Justice (retd) Mir Hazar Khan Khoso and Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan have ordered a quick probe report of the blast.

The caretaker PM, in a statement, said that such cowardly acts would not deter the resolve of the law enforcement agencies of wiping out the terrorism from the society.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Hard boy whacked, another winged by IDF
A Palestinian yout teen was killed in clashes with the IDF near Tulkarm late Wednesday night and another was wounded in the stomach.

Security forces were already on high alert for violence that was expected to break out on Thursday following the Hebron funeral for Palestinian prisoner Maissara Abu Hamdiyeh, 63, who died of esophageal cancer in Soroka University Medical Center on Tuesday. Two separate autopsies by both Israel and the Palestinian Authority found that his death was caused by cancer, but that did not quell Palestinian anger at Israel. PA President Mahmoud Abbas has accused Israel of medical negligence in his death.
Esophageal cancer is rarely cured, and death from it is painful from the metastases to the liver and lung.
Hamdiyeh was jailed in 2002 and given a life sentence for his role in attempting to bomb the Caffit restaurant in Jerusalem’s German Colony. He was hailed as a martyr and a hero, and violence immediately broke out in the West Bank Tuesday and continued Wednesday.

According to the IDF, Palestinians attacked a guard station near Tulkarm late Wednesday night and threw Molotov cocktails at it. Soldiers responded with live fire, but the IDF would not confirm any deaths.

The soldiers targeted by the firebombing felt their lives to be at risk before using live fire, a senior defense source told The Jerusalem Post.
Being firebombed does heighten the anxiety level...
Abir Kopty of the Popular Struggle Coordination Committee confirmed that according to the Red Moon-Shaped Thingy Crescent, Amer Nassar, 17, was killed by IDF fire.

Some 200 Palestinians rioted in Hebron, where they threw stones and scores of Molotov cocktails at IDF forces near the police checkpoint, which is often the flashpoint for such violence. An IDF officer was lightly wounded.

Philippines, MILF to restart peace talks
The Philippines and Muslim terrorists rebels will resume talks next week meant to end one of Asia's longest insurgencies, with both sides aiming to finalize a deal by May. Philippine President Aquino has authorized the new round of negotiations with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), after postponing the talks in late March so he could have more time to study the planned pact.

Chief government negotiator Miriam Coronel Ferrer said, "We are at the home-stretch. We are working on a target to finish all the annexes (outstanding issues) and a final deal before the elections on May 13."

The Philippines goes to the polls in May to pick more than 18,000 officials, including half the Senate and the entire House of Representatives. The elections are crucial because their congress would have to pass a law approving the peace deal.

Once a final peace deal is signed, the government is hoping congress will pass the law to approve it before then end of 2014. After that areas included in the planned autonomous region would need to endorse it in a plebiscite.

MILF chief negotiator Mohagher Iqbal also expressed confidence that a final agreement could be reached during the next few weeks. He said, "I believe it will be signed because there is no other way forward, except to finish all the annexes."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Air Raids Hit Syria Provinces
[An Nahar] Syria's air force staged new strikes Wednesday on several rebel-held areas across the country, including Raqa in the north, Homs in the center and Damascus
...Capital of the last remaining Baathist regime in the world...
province, a monitoring group said.

"New air raids struck the city of Raqa," said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, three weeks after rebels seized total control of the scenic provincial capital.

Amateur video filmed by activists and distributed online showed an area identified as the city's Bedouin neighborhood mostly reduced to grey rubble, as a cameraman was heard blaming an air strike.

"Civilians have been targeted," said the unnamed cameraman, as a siren went off.

The city has been the target of frequent air strikes since the pullout of troops from the first major city to have fallen out of regime control in Syria's conflict, which the U.N. says has killed more than 70,000 people in two years.

Warplanes also targeted the edges of the village of Abel in the central province of Homs, said the Observatory, which relies on a broad network of activists, doctors and lawyers for its reports.

Meanwhile,
...back at the alley, Slats grabbed his rosco...
festivities pitting rebels against troops raged in Joussiyeh, in a restive area near the Lebanese border, the Britannia-based watchdog added.

And in Damascus province, warplanes carried out three air strikes on Ziabiyeh and another on Mleiha, the Observatory said, without elaborating on casualties.

Fresh battles were also reported in several flashpoints on the outskirts of the capital, as a military source loyal to Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Trampler of Homs...
's regime pledged that Damascus "will remain secure", according to a pro-regime newspaper.

"We have warned the terrorist groups again and again... that if they come anywhere near Damascus it will mean certain death both for them and for their leaders," an unnamed military official told al-Watan.

"The army and all its units are ready to defend Damascus, which has not and will not be desecrated by the terrorists... Damascus is safe and it will remain safe," he said.

The latest violence across Syria came a day after 133 people were killed, according to a count distributed by the Observatory which relies on a network of activists and medics. Among them were 58 civilians, 48 rebels and 27 soldiers.

Syrian jets 'attack' Lebanese town
[Al Jizz] A Syrian helicopter has flown 20km into Leb and fired on an area on the outskirts of a Lebanese town, the deputy mayor of Arsal told AFP news agency.

"Two rockets were launched, though no casualties were caused. There are several houses in the area where the rockets landed," said Ahmad Fliti on Wednesday.

Another official, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
told AFP that a helicopter fired two rockets on Jubaneh al-Shmis on the outskirts of Arsal.

"The area lies several hundred metres away from a Lebanese army checkpoint," he said.

Arsal is a majority Sunni town in northeastern Leb, many of whose residents support the revolt against Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
The Scourge of Hama...
in neighbouring Syria.

Houses affected

Residents of Arsal told Al Jizz that two or three missiles hit the area, and houses have been affected.

There has been no reports of casualties thus far. This is the first time Syrian warplanes have hit the town of Arsal.

The area lies on the border with Syria, and has become home to thousands of people fleeing their the conflict. Arsal hosts more than 20,000 Syrian refugees, which is almost half the half the population of Arsal.

In-depth coverage of escalating violence across Syria
Scores of Syrians injured in the violence have been brought into Arsal for medical treatment in recent months, and there have been reports of fighters and arms being smuggled in.

The attack comes after reported air strikes in the same area last month, which were condemned by the US and by Lebanese President Michel Suleiman
...before assuming office as President, he held the position of commander of the Leb Armed Forces. That was after the previous commander, the loathesome Emile Lahoud, took office as president in November of 1998. Likely the next president of Leb will be whoever's commander of the armed forces, too...
who called it an "unacceptable violation".

Damascus
...The place where Pencilneck hangs his brass hat...
denied responsibility for the attacks.
