Corona Beer Rebranding Fails (humor)
from The Derringer
Need a cool, refreshing beer for a long beach day in the sun? Normally you might reach for a Corona Extra, but with the rise of Coronavirus, Corona beer sales have plummeted to record lows. Although most consumers (outside California) don’t actually think that Corona will give them the deadly disease, the psychological effect on the branding cannot be overstated. That being said, would you rather have an Ebola Extra? Probably not, and that’s why Anheuser-Busch’s multi-billion-dollar re-brand of the iconic beer has been such a massive failure.

"To be honest," said an anonymous employee involved in the re-branding, "We didn't realize the association. E-bol-a sounded enough like Corona, and we thought it could be infused with a bouncing Caribbean vibe. It just didn't occur to us that this was yet again another disease."

Cliff Kincaid: American Guinea Pigs in a Chinese Lab
[News with Views] "This a global problem that will require global solutions, not more ignorant, nationalist fear-mongering." So says a writer with an outfit called Popular Resistance about the coronavirus and President Trump’s response. In the midst of this Marxist drivel, President Trump offers a calm answer to a pandemic ‐ protect our people and defend our borders.

The European Socialists, who have implemented open borders and hate the concept of national sovereignty, were caught off-guard. They are irate that Trump is closing America to their infected people and travelers. The Chinese, meanwhile, are angry that they are being blamed for a virus that emerged from their country ‐ and perhaps from their lab.

It looks like key Trump White House personnel are coming to the conclusion that the Chinese communist authorities have their fingerprints all over this deadly disease.

#1  Yet many news organizations are following the Chinese communist line that this is somehow a "global" problem that has nothing to do with China. Commentators are actually criticizing those who accurately describe the disease as the "Chinese virus" or the "Wuhan virus."

Economy
Gold's worst week since 1983 strips metal of safe haven status
[Bloomberg] Gold posted its worst week in over three decades, joining the collapse across global markets that not even the traditional safe haven could dodge.

In the rush to raise cash and cover losses in other markets, investors are pulling their money out of bullion, typically seen as a store of value amid market volatility and global worries. That meant hedge funds cutting their bullish bets in the week ended March 10 by the most since early February.

The stronger dollar has also made the metal less appealing. The S&P 500 index had a volatile Friday after its worst day since 1987.

"There’s a lot of selling of every liquid asset for margin calls," Matthew Miller, a gold market and equities analyst at CFRA in Denver, said by phone.

Europe
For Italy, multilateral globalism, plus socialism, equals death
[American Thinker] - Italy's in dire need of help.

Its health care system is collapsing. The coronavirus has put the whole country in quarantine. There are now 15,000 cases, along with 1,018 deaths, the last 24 hours bringing in 188 more. The casualty count is the highest outside China. And it's spreading fast. Until a few days ago, the problem as concentrated in the north. Now, it has spread throughout the whole country.

Anyone with a heart can feel pity and an urge to help them. They need help, bad.

But don't go asking the European Union.

Turns out the open-borders globalist set-up is stiffing the Italians in their hour of need:

First, the EU created the problem by failing to shut down their borders with China, enabling its spread into Italy in the first place. While President Trump was acting swiftly to protect America from the lethal virus, the European Union was saying there was no crisis and calling Trump a xenophobe.

Now, with Italy hit hard based on that hate-Trump 'logic', its medical system is overwhelmed. Its doctors and nurses are exhausted. There's not enough equipment or supplies, and the patients keep coming. Health care is being doled out by triage, old people being told 'no health care for you.' The Italians are appealing for help with masks, surgical equipment, doctors, anything that will enable them to get through it and save human lives -- and the EU is not giving it.

...instead, European countries are banning the exportation of face masks and other medical equipment needed to deal with the crisis.
Now, when Covid 19 reaches "Palestine", then we'll see EU moving.

#1  Now, with Italy hit hard based on that hate-Trump 'logic'

Some more, very relevant "hate-Trump 'logic'": People are toxic to the planet. Older, tradition-minded white people are a cancer on society. The antidote to the above is more young people of color, imported from the global South.

Ergo, any condition, disease or social phenomenon that hastens the deaths of older, tradition-minded white people is to be welcomed and, if possible, stoked with all the tools of the Woke movement.

’s harsh rhetoric against his opponents is widely known at home and abroad. Yet a dramatic incident at the Ottoman Turkish parliament last week provided insight into the fates of those who dare use the same rhetoric against him.

On March 4, a politician from the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) criticized Erdogan by using the same words the president used to insult the CHP leader, setting off a brawl at the Ottoman Turkish parliament. A politician from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) punched CHP politician Engin Ozkoc numerous times. A prosecutor then launched a probe against Ozkoc on charges of "insulting the president."

Bernie: 'We Must Seize The Means Of Toilet Paper Production'
[Babylon Bee] In a video message recorded from one of his many, many houses, Bernie Sanders has called on the workers of the world to unite and seize the means of toilet paper production.

Sanders was under quarantine because he is old and susceptible to the virus. So he delivered the message remotely, but it was just as powerful as if he had delivered it to thousands of Bernie bros in person: "Workers of the world, unite and seize the means of producing bath tissue in large quantities!"

Being a well-known communist, Sanders criticized the free market for having so much prosperity and toilet paper that people could run out and purchase hundreds of rolls they don't even need on a whim. "1% of the people now own 99% of the toilet paper. Under a socialist system, each person would get an equal amount, which would probably be two or three squares. But at least we would all be equal."

The presidential candidate has also promised to enact efficient, government-run toilet paper lines if elected president.

"My fellow Americans, can you spare a square?" he asked his loyal followers.

Pollak: Democrats Pushed Impeachment While Coronavirus Spread
[Beitbart] We now know the cost of impeachment.

While Democrats were diverting the attention and energy of the entire country into a pointless trial that could not possibly have ended in anything other than President Donald Trump's acquittal, the coronavirus pandemic was beginning in China and arriving in the United States.

The timeline of the two developments ‐ impeachment and coronavirus ‐ is shocking, and reveals the true cost of hyper-partisanship.

  • January 11: Chinese state media report the first known death from an illness originating in the Wuhan market.

  • January 15: Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) holds a vote to send articles of impeachment to the Senate. Pelosi and House Democrats celebrate the "solemn" occasion with a signing ceremony, using commemorative pens.

  • January 21: The first person with coronavirus arrives in the United States from China, where he had been in Wuhan.

  • January 23: The House impeachment managers make their opening arguments for removing President Trump.

  • January 23: China closes off the city of Wuhan completely to slow the spread of coronavirus to the rest of China.

  • January 30: Senators begin asking two days of questions of both sides in the president's impeachment trial.

  • January 30: The World Health Organization declares a global health emergency as coronavirus continues to spread.

  • January 31: The Senate holds a vote on whether to allow further witnesses and documents in the impeachment trial.

  • January 31: President Trump declares a national health emergency and imposes a ban on travel to and from China. Former Vice President Joe Biden calls Trump's decision "hysterical xenophobia … and fear-mongering."

  • February 2: The first death from coronavirus outside China is reported in the Philippines.

  • February 3: House impeachment managers begin closing arguments, calling Trump a threat to national security.

  • February 4: President Trump talks about coronavirus in his State of the Union address; Pelosi rips up every page.

  • February 5: The Senate votes to acquit President Trump on both articles of impeachment, 52-48 and 53-47.

  • February 5: House Democrats finally take up coronavirus in the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia.

Science & Technology
Greening Our Way to Infection
CJ via Instapundit
The COVID-19 outbreak is giving new meaning to those "sustainable" shopping bags that politicians and environmentalists have been so eager to impose on the public. These reusable tote bags can sustain the COVID-19 and flu viruses‐and spread the viruses throughout the store.

Researchers have been warning for years about the risks of these bags spreading deadly viral and bacterial diseases, but public officials have ignored their concerns, determined to eliminate single-use bags and other plastic products despite their obvious advantages in reducing the spread of pathogens. In New York State, a new law took effect this month banning single-use plastic bags in most retail businesses, and this week Democratic state legislators advanced a bill that would force coffee shops to accept consumers’ reusable cups‐a practice that Starbucks and other chains have wisely suspended to avoid spreading the COVID-19 virus.

The Other Virus To Fear
[Town Hall] - There's a virus threatening the health of America, all right.

But it's not new, not from a foreign country and it's not the coronavirus.

The virus Americans need to fear the most today is the political left.

The Pelosi-Schumer Democrats and their permanently distraught soulmates in the Trump-hating liberal mainstream media are trying harder than ever to hurt the president at every turn.

The president has been doing his best to protect us from the coronavirus without sowing panic in the streets and in the toilet paper aisle at Costco.

He acted decisively in late January when he shut down travel from China, where the virus apparently was born late last year.

This week he announced a temporary ban on travel to the U.S. for most Europeans - and rightly so, because their governments had not acted quickly enough to block the spread of the virus to their countries from China.

But no matter what Trump does or doesn't do, the left and the liberal media try to blame him for infecting the entire world.

Covid-19 is obviously a serious national health problem that will only get worse as many more older and already sick people get infected and have to be treated.

It's already slammed the economy, crashed the stock market, closed college campus, forced sports leagues to cancel or suspend their seasons, crushed the oil and travel industries, spooked local politicians and turned airports, malls and other parts of America into ghost towns.

But unlike previous deadly viruses like the swine flu pandemic of 2009-2010, Covid-19 is being politicized and weaponized by the left.

You probably don't remember the details of the swine flu, which infected 60 million Americans and killed over 12,000 without panicking everyone and wrecking the economy.

That's because President Obama and his administration were not blamed for the virus by Republicans or a biased and hysterical media.

Plus the media did not over-play the swine flu pandemic 24/7 as it slowly spread, peaked and then died away.

The media coverage of this dangerous virus is semi-hysterical and has a much different spin - a partisan one.

Over at CNN and MSNBC, they're virtually asking why the president hasn't personally cured the coronavirus yet and charging that he doesn't care about people dying at all.
