Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.

Children die as drought ravages Somalia over Al-Shabaab blockade
[Garowe] Authorities in the troubled Gedo region have reported two deaths which are related to hunger, mainly caused by al-Shabaab
...... the personification of Somali state failure...
blockades, which have made it impossible for humanitarian groups given that most supply routes remain closed.

Those who died from hunger and thirst are mainly children, and there is a possibility of more casualties in coming weeks, should the residents fail to get urgent help from well-wishers, authorities said in a statement, which comes amid political chaos.

Al-Shabaab, local authorities said, have been using the current standoff between Jubaland security forces and the Somali National Army [SNA] over the control of Gedo, further expanding their territories in an area which had almost been liberated from the group following operations by the Kenya Defense Forces [KDF].

While Kenyan troops continue serving in Sector II whose main headquarters are at Dhobley, they have not successfully contained the bully boyz due to internal wrangles pitting the federal government of Somalia and the local Jubaland administration.

The federal government has been under pressure to withdraw troops from Gedo but in return, they have refused, leading to constant wrangles with the Jubaland security forces. The Mogadishu-based government accuses Kenya of meddling in her internal affairs, a claim disputed by Nairobi.

And the standoff has given al-Shabaab a freeway to terrorize residents, thus causing the current humanitarian crisis in the region. Gedo region falls under Jubaland state, which neighbors Kenya, and which has been working closely with Nairobi.

Besides the al-Shabaab bad boys-engineered menace, the region is also battling acute food shortages caused by ravaging desert locusts and poor rains in the region. Authorities say the situation could be dire in the coming weeks if it's not contained.

#1  Jan 25,2021: YANBU, SAUDI ARABIA — The U.S. military is expanding its ability to operate from Saudi Arabia in the event of a war with Iran, striking a preliminary arrangement with Riyadh to use various air bases and seaports in the country’s western regions. The U.S. military has long kept a host of military assets and thousands of troops in Gulf kingdoms on the eastern flank of Saudi Arabia, including at permanent bases in Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, and elsewhere. But Iran’s ballistic missiles have improved, those bases have become increasingly vulnerable, analysts say.
In a conflict with Iran, the United States would be able to transport troops in and out of the region from the west, posture fighters and other aircraft further from Iran’s missile launchers, and “lily-pad” eastward into the fight, Gen. Frank McKenzie told reporters traveling with him to the region to inspect three of the new locations.

At Least 8 Dead in Fire at Yemen Migrant Facility
[AnNahar] At least eight migrants colonists and guards were killed, and scores more injured, in a fire on Sunday at a holding facility in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
's capital, the International Organization for Migration said.

"Eight people confirmed dead, the total corpse count is reported to be much higher," tweeted Carmela Godeau, IOM's regional director for the Middle East and North Africa.

"IOM is responding particularly with emergency health care for over 170 injured, more than 90 of them are in a serious condition."

Godeau said that it "remains unclear" how the fire at the centre in Sanaa started, adding: "This is just one of the many dangers that migrants colonists have faced during the past six years of the crisis in Yemen."

It is believed thousands of migrants colonists are stranded in Yemen, where a years-long conflict has claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced millions in what the UN calls the world's worst humanitarian crisis.

Every year thousands of migrants colonists make perilous boat journeys from the Horn of Africa to the war-torn nation, many with the aim of travelling overland to Gulf countries in search of work.
As ignorant of reality as the Peasants Crusade and the Children’s Crusade during the High Middle Ages, and with much the same outcome: robbery, rapine, slavery, and death.
Last week, at least 20 people drowned after smugglers threw dozens of migrants colonists overboard during a crossing between Djibouti and Yemen, according to IOM.

IDF says attempted Molotov cocktail attack thwarted, 2 Palestinians injured
[IsraelTimes] The Israeli military says it thwarted an attack by two Paleostinians throwing Molotov cocktails at passing Israeli cars southeast of Bethlehem in the West Bank.

"Israeli soldiers in the area began implementing the arrest procedure, which included fire towards the suspects. They were struck," the IDF says.

Both Paleostinians — both teenagers — were maimed, one critically, according to the official Paleostinian Authority WAFA news agency. Paleostinian media did not mention whether the suspects threw Molotov cocktails, describing the events as "festivities."

Palestinian tries to stab soldier during West Bank raid, is shot, army says
[IsraelTimes] Incident occurs during an arrest operation; separately, 2 arrested for suspected attack in northern Israel on IDF soldier during which his weapon was stolen.

A Paleostinian man tried to stab an Israel Defense Forces soldier during an overnight operation in the West Bank, the army said Monday.

The would-be attacker was shot by another soldier. There were no details given on his condition.

The incident occurred while the soldiers were trying to carry out an arrest. The army did not clarify if the suspect was a target in that operation.

According to the army, the suspect tried to stab a soldier, who shoved him away before the commanding officer shot him.

The soldier lightly hurt his hand and was treated on the scene.

The incident came amid heightened tensions in the West Bank, where Israeli settlers and Paleostinians have clashed repeatedly in recent weeks.

Separately, two men were arrested Sunday for their suspected involvement in an attack last week on an IDF soldier in northern Israel in which his weapon was stolen.

The two suspects, both aged 25 and from the northern Bedouin town of Ibtin, were detained while hiding near the West Bank village of az-Zubaidat.

A commando soldier was lightly injured in the attack during an overnight navigation exercise, in an incident the IDF chief of staff condemned at the time as "crossing a red line."

The Kan public broadcaster reported that the soldier was walking alone down a dirt road close to the town of Shfaram at around 3 a.m. when a vehicle containing two people pulled up behind him.

The vehicle stopped and one of the men asked the soldier if he needed a ride. When the soldier kept on walking, the vehicle overtook him and blocked the road, at which point the two men got out and attacked him in a struggle that went on for approximately five minutes. The report said the soldier managed to throw the gun magazine into nearby bushes, but the assailants escaped with his weapon.

The theft of guns has long been an issue for the military. As a result, in recent years the IDF has invested millions of shekels in advanced security systems for armories.

Palestinian woman nabbed in outpost; settlers say she tried to stab woman
[IsraelTimes] No injuries reported in the incident; IDF says knife recovered from the scene, which comes a month after an alleged attack at the farm.

A Paleostinian woman was arrested Monday after she entered an illegal agricultural outpost in the central West Bank and allegedly tried to stab the wife of the farm owner, the military said.

"A report was received from residents of Sdeh Efraim Farm that a short while ago an assailant entered the farm... and tried to stab the farm owner’s wife with a knife," the Israel Defense Forces said.

Residents of the outpost subdued the Paleostinian woman, without seriously injuring her, and handed her over to IDF troops who arrived at the scene.

The military said a knife was recovered.

According to a local resident who spoke to The Times of Israel, the woman is said to be named Anhar al-Deek and came from the nearby village of Ni’ma. The official WAFA news agency reported that al-Deek was 25 years old and had one young child.

Last month, in an apparently unrelated incident, an unarmed Paleostinian man from the next-door village of Ras Karkar entered Sdeh Efraim Farm in the predawn hours of February 5 and was shot to death after an altercation with residents of the outpost. Israeli authorities termed the incident a terror attack based on the testimony of Eitan Ze’ev, who runs the farm and is awaiting trial for shooting a Paleostinian man at another outpost.

Monday’s incident came hours after the military said a Paleostinian man tried to stab a soldier as his unit was conducting an arrest raid in the northern West Bank village of Tubas.

Umm al-Fahm man sentenced to five years for helping Hezbollah
[IsraelTimes] Mahmoud Jabarin convicted of assisting Lebanese terror group’s psychological warfare efforts against Israel by providing images and video.

The Haifa District Court on Monday sentenced an Israeli man to five years in prison for supporting Hezbollah by providing the Lebanese terror group with photos and videos from sites in the country, which were then published as part of its propaganda efforts against the Jewish state.

Mahmoud Jabarin, 37, from the northern town of Umm al-Fahm,
...the Galilee home of the outlawed Islamic Movement in Israel - Northern Branch, the Israeli branch of the Muslim Brotherhood...
was convicted under a plea bargain in which he admitted to contacting Hezbollah operatives and helping the organization, which has vowed to destroy Israel.

Prosecutors said Jabarin was in contact with two Hezbollah operatives in Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
and starting in 2018 provided them with photos of the Lebanon border fence, Hadera power station, Megiddo Prison, Petah Tikva and other locations.

The content was then published via social media and touted as showing Hezbollah’s ability to penetrate into Israeli territory as part of its psychological warfare against the Jewish state.

"The defendant agreed and acted on the request [of the two operatives] out of a desire to assist Hezbollah’s media, propaganda and war effort against Israel," prosecutors wrote in the indictment.

In addition to the five-year sentence, which includes time served from the date of his arrest on February 18, 2019, Jabarin was given another 12 months’ suspended sentence effective for three years from his release from prison.

He has 45 days to appeal the sentence.

Prosecutors said that Jabarin began to support Hezbollah in 2005 and chose Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei
...the very aged actual dictator of Iran, successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini...
as his religious guide.

In the years that followed, he maintained two Facebook accounts, each with hundreds of followers, where he would post messages of support for the Iran-backed Hezbollah.
