They promised to stop, but didn’t, so this is their reward. Well done, Afghan forces!
KABUL (Reuters) - Afghan forces used ground attacks and air strikes in multiple operations against the Taliban during the last 24 hours, killing 51 fighters in an escalation that signaled renewed deadlock in peace talks.
Afghanistan’s Defense Ministry said on Sunday that government forces had conducted 13 ground offensives and 12 air strikes in nine provinces, adding that 51 "terrorists" had been killed, 13 wounded and six arrested.
Local officials in the northern province of Balkh said at least three women and four children were killed in the air strikes, prompting protests in front of the provincial governor’s office.
The government pledged to send a fact-finding mission to investigate the reports of civilian deaths.
Meanwhile, the Taliban said it had staged two more attacks targeting security forces over the weekend, following sporadic assaults last week.
[KhaamaPress] Afghan National Army (ANA) helicopter crashed down in Kajaki district of southern Helman province on Saturday, as a result of which four Afghan soldiers were maimed.
According to the 215 Maiwand Corps, the helicopter was shot down while landing, with no accurate information on who committed the shooting.
An unknown source within the Afghan cops reported that the Taliban ...Arabic for students... bully boyz had brought down a chopper; however, the Taliban holy warrior group has not grabbed credit for the downing so far.
"The helicopter was on its way to Kajaki district to transport supplies for the Afghan forces." the source said. The source adds that two army soldiers had also bit the dust, and its pilots had severe injuries.
On the contrary, the front man of the Ministry of Defense Syed Ghafoor Ahmad Jawid in a statement said that the chopper had to make an emergency landing due to technical issues, and it did not leave any casualties.
Over the last couple of months, at least four helicopters of the Afghan forces were crashed down ‐ the first was claimed as a shot down by the Taliban in Farah, and the two others reportedly crashed during an emergency landing in Paktia and Paktika ...which coincidentally borders South Wazoo... , and the last one brought down in Helmand ...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan... province.
[AnNahar] A Frenchie has been sentenced to 22 years in prison for seeking to recruit dozens of youths to fight as jihadists in Syria and for leading a brigade of French-speaking Islamists in the war-torn country.

Prosecutors said he played a "crucial" role in the recruiting of young people to fight as jihadists in Syria, and noted a lack of any "real regret" for his actions.
Fares appeared unmoved as the verdict was read out at a special court Friday evening.
He admitted to the court he "indirectly" recruited youths to fight as jihadists via his propaganda videos and "facilitated" the entry of a number of people into Syria.
He denied taking part in combat operations in Syria, where he travelled in 2014.
But prosecutors said he "participated in armed actions" with the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. [Jpost] A former Mexican federal police commander was arrested on Friday for allegedly accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes from Mexican narco mobs to help them send cocaine into the United States, in a case linked to imprisoned drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, U.S. prosecutors said.
The office of U.S. Attorney Richard Donoghue in Brooklyn, New York said the defendant Ivan Reyes Arzate was arrested at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, where he was serving a 40-month prison term after pleading no contest in 2018 to obstruction charges in an Illinois case.
Reyes had been scheduled to be released on Jan. 27 and then deported to Mexico, before a federal grand jury indicted him on Thursday on three conspiracy charges, Donoghue's office said.
A lawyer for the defendant could not immediately be identified.
Reyes is expected to appear later Friday in a Brooklyn courtroom. Each charge carries a 10-year mandatory minimum prison sentence, and prosecutors want Reyes subjected to permanent detention, calling him a "significant flight risk."
According to Donoghue's office, Reyes received bribes from the El Seguimiento 39 cartel in exchange for helping protect its drug trafficking activities.
Multiple cooperating witnesses said other cartels including the Beltran Leyva Organization also paid bribes to Reyes for his assistance, Donoghue's office said.
According to prosecutors, Reyes worked from 2003 to 2016 in the Mexican federal police's Sensitive Investigative Unit, and from 2008 to 2016 was its top officer, making him the main contact for sharing information with U.S. law enforcement.
Prosecutors said Reyes' case was "presumptively related" to their cases in Brooklyn against Guzman and Genaro Garcia Luna, formerly Mexico's top security official, because the facts arose from the same criminal schemes, transactions and events.
Guzman is serving life in prison without parole after being convicted in last year.
Garcia Luna pleaded not guilty "Wudn't me." on Jan. 3 to accepting millions of dollars in bribes to let Guzman's Sinaloa narco mob operate with impunity.

This has led the Sherlocks to conclude that a consignment of Chinese ordnance used by the Pakistain Army was smuggled into the Valley across the Line of Control (LoC), the people added.
