Rantburg has developed into a community over the years, similar to a family. And like families and communities, we have debate over the issues as we monitor the global war on terrorism.
Sometimes the debate is rancorous and acrimonious. The views expressed here are sometimes divergent, sometimes they are convergent. None of that can be helped as long as debate is civil and well reasoned.
That is the requirement: Civility and reasonableness. Most everything outside of those parameters we deal with on a case by case basis, sometimes as a community. Sometimes our volunteers, unpaid moderators, must take matters into their hands. The tools at their disposal include warnings, redactions and deletions, usually in that order.
Objectionable matter include racist or inflammatory remarks. Expletives are usually partially censored by regulars. You should not use them to express your views, but if you can't without using expletives, it is recommended you learn to self censor.
Threats or hints to threats to harm anyone who is not a targeted terrorist or a convicted criminal will be redacted and are subject to be deleted. This website is occasionally monitored by law enforcement and civil intelligence agencies.
We normally have no problem with anonymous browsing through proxies or those who wish to visit from an institution, such as work, university, or government. However, if you cannot abide by the rules set forth and you continue to function outside those rules, browsing through anonymous proxies, then it does become an issue. If we identify an ongoing problem with your online activities and measures taken by and warnings issued by moderators do not seem to temper your behavior, we will take the measure of fully blocking all those means of connecting including email.
