The Afghan online news service, Khaama Press, reports that the United States has re-assumed control of Bagram Air Base in eastern Afghanistan, to the north of Kabul, at the request of the Taliban Government;
Seriously? I have no information, but that makes no sense… | with several C-17s arriving last week at the base, carrying military vehicles, equipment and senior intelligence officials, including the Deputy Director of the CIA, Michael Ellis.
The redeployment of American service members to Afghanistan following their withdrawal in 2021 has yet to be confirmed by U.S. or Taliban officials, though flight trackers did manage to confirm the arrival of several U.S. Air Force C-17 military transport aircraft last week at Bagram. Though this move likely makes no sense to some, Bagram Air Base and Afghanistan as a whole remains an extremely strategic location for staging future military operations in a war against both Iran and China. According to some reports, an official announcement of the U.S. military re-assuming control of Bagram is expected to come in April, possibly as early as this week.
