According to some civil society activists, the attack on Afghan migrants colonists is a crime against humanity, and the perpetrators must be brought to justice.
"Shedding the blood of Afghan citizens, whose aim in migrating is to escape poverty and earn a piece of bread, is considered a crime against humanity and requires prosecution in international courts. A country does not have the right to treat migrants colonists as if they are invaders and to gun them down. Certainly, this action by Iranian border guards counts as a crime against humanity," Seyed Ashraf Sadat, a civil society activist, told TOLOnews.
This comes at a time when, in recent months, the expulsion of Afghan migrants colonists from Iran has intensified, and there have been frequent reports of police mistreatment of migrants colonists in that country.
The Iran Human Rights Organization (Halvash) reported that Iranian border guards shot at Afghan refugees attempting to enter the country, resulting in the deaths of 260 individuals.
According to Halvash, the report is based on accounts from two Afghan witnesses who saw their compatriots being killed.
The organization shared a video showing the bodies of the victims, stating that these individuals were killed last Sunday night in the border region of Kalgan Saravan.
Halvash cited sources who survived the incident, revealing that the group of migrants consisted of approximately 300 people. Out of this group, only 60 survived, while the rest were either killed or severely injured.
This report comes amid a growing number of news stories about the harassment, torture, and mistreatment of Afghan refugees by Iranian forces, which continue to surface in the media.

Mujahid: Islamic Emirate Investigating Reported Killing of Afghan Migrants
[ToloNews] Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, reacted to the shooting of Afghan migrants, stating that the interim government is investigating the incident.
Mujahid said on X that after the matter is clarified, the necessary decision will be made regarding it.
The spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate wrote about this: "Today, rumors were spread in the media about the martyrdom and injury of several Afghan nationals at the Iran-Pakistan border. Various institutions of the Islamic Emirate are investigating and examining this incident. So far, no accurate information is available. Once the issue is clarified, the necessary decision will be made in this regard."
Meanwhile, Iran's ambassador and special representative to Afghanistan stated that, based on their assessments, the news of the shooting at migrants on the Iranian border is not true.
Hassan Kazemi Qomi, Iran's ambassador and special representative to Afghanistan, wrote on X: "As a result of direct follow-ups through reliable sources up to this moment, it has been confirmed that the news about the death of dozens of illegal immigrants at the Saravan border is not accurate."
Iranian soldiers plant landmines and fire on Afghan migrants as if at war with Israel: Report
[KhaamaPress] Reports indicate that the Iranian government has laid landmines along the route commonly used by Afghan migrants in the Kulgan area of Saravan.
According to an insider, Iranian officials not only fired upon the migrants with extreme brutality but also caused fatalities as landmine explosions killed several during their attempt to cross the border.
The source described the intensity of the shooting, comparing it to “a war between Iran and Israel.”
According to the information received, most of the migrants were from the provinces of Badghis and Ghor. They were attempting to travel from Nimroz to Pakistan and then to Iran.
The website “Hal Vash,” which covers news in Sistan and Baluchestan, was the first to break the story. Hal Vash reported that Iranian border forces opened fire on Afghan migrants on the evening of Sunday, October 13.
On Tuesday, Hal Vash, citing videos, images, and witness claims, reported that out of 300 Afghan migrants, about 60 to 70 survived, while the rest were either killed or injured.
Reports indicate that a group of over 300 migrants, guided by smugglers, was travelling from Kulgon to Saravan in Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan provinces.
“The government has mined this route. It wasn’t mined before. Some were killed in the explosions, and Iranian officials shot those who survived,” according to the report.
The source added that when the border officials realized they had attacked civilians, they left the area. Many of the injured and survivors fled to the Mashkel area in Pakistan. Several bodies were left in Iranian territory.
