Pennsylvania Trump rally shooting suspect pictured after deadly assassination attempt
[FoxNews] Gunman and one spectator dead, 2 more wounded; Trump OK
Images provided by law enforcement sources at the scene of former President Donald Trump's rally in Pennsylvania Saturday appear to show the downed suspect after Secret Service agents "neutralized" a gunman who they say opened fire on the rally, fatally striking one spectator and critically injuring two more.
Authorities were still working to confirm the suspect's identity Saturday evening.
Trump was rushed to a hospital after he appeared to suffer an injury to his ear and was pictured with blood on the right side of his face and head as Secret Service agents escorted him off the rally stage.
After agents shielded him behind their own bodies, he rose with them and held his hand up, prompting cheers from the crowd after several moments on gunfire and panic.
The Secret Service said in a statement that the attacker and one bystander had been killed. Two other people were hurt.
The gunman opened fire from an "elevated position" outside the rally's security perimeter, authorities said.
Later Saturday, the FBI said it was taking the lead in the investigation.
Bloody images from the scene show a man with a thin build and a gray T-shirt. He appeared to have been shot in the head.
Trump appeared to grab his ear and duck as agents swarmed to protect him. They can be overheard on the microphone saying the shooter, who was out of the camera's view, is down.
Sources said Secret Service counter snipers took him out after he opened fire on the former president from a vantage point about 300 yards away.
Anyone with information that could help investigators is asked to call 1-800-CALL-FBI.
Trump in a statement said that the bullet "pierced" the upper part of his right ear. The attack happened just minutes after he took the stage at a rally at Butler Farm in Butler County, Pennsylvania.
"I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania," Trump said.
"Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured. It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country."
President Biden also condemned the attack, saying he had been briefed on the incident and that he had spoken with his predecessor and 2024 rival in the aftermath.
"I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well," he said. "I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information."

A few short minutes after Trump took the stage, shots rang out
Yes, the world is watching. | [IsraelTimes] At 6:02 pm Saturday, to the strains of "God Bless the USA," former president Donald Trump
...The man who was so stupid he beat fourteen professional politicians, a former tech CEO, and a brain surgeon for the Republican nomination in 2016, then beat The Smartest Woman in the World in the general election...
took the stage at fairgrounds in Butler, Pennsylvania, waving at the cheering crowd and settling into his regular rally speech under a scorching midsummer sun.
A few short minutes later, Trump pointed to a projection of a chart that showed a spike in illegal border crossings under the man he’s running against, President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. Sleazy Dem machine politician, paterfamilias of the Biden Crime Family...
. "That chart’s a couple of months old," Trump told the crowd. "And if you want to see something really sad —"
That’s when the shots rang out, at least five. Trump clutched his ear as dark-suited Secret Service agents dashed toward him. He dropped to the ground as the agents yelled, "Get down!" The thousands of rallygoers packed into the field in front of him moved as one, dropping down as silence spread across the grass, punctuated only by an occasional scream.
Selections from the Daily Mail liveblog:
A 20-year-old gunman shot and wounded Donald Trump in an attempted assassin at a Pennsylvania rally on Saturday in one of the most horrifying acts of violence in political history.
The former president was speaking to thousands of fan when he grabbed his ear and had blood covering his face after the suspect opened fire with an AR rifle from a rooftop 130 yards from the stage.
At least eight shots were fired and the crowd started screaming as Trump was swarmed by his Secret Service agents.
He then got up, raised his fist and shouted 'fight, fight, fight' as he was rushed away from the scene and to hospital. Just a few hours later he released a statement saying he was fine and describing the moment he felt the bullet rip through his skin.
The attacker killed a member of the crowd before he was shot and killed in the terrifying incident that has sparked questions of how law enforcement allowed him to open fire on a former president.

For those just joining us, here's what we know:
- On Saturday, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crook shot Donald Trump in the ear from the top of a building 130 yards from the stage.
- The bullet hit Trump in the ear, less than an inch away from his brain. A turn of Trump's head a millisecond before the first shot was fired likely saved his life.
- Secret Service agents shot Crook dead after he got off eight shots.
- Crook murdered Corey Comperatore, and two other rally-goers were injured. Comperatone threw himself on family members, taking a bullet for them and likely saving their lives.
- His daughter described Comperatore as a "man of God" who "loved Jesus fiercely and looked after our church and our members as family." He is now resting in the arms of his Savior.
- The gun Crook used, described as AR-15-style, was purchased legally by his father. IEDs were found in Crook's car.
- Trump appeared last night when his plane landed in New Jersey. He walked unassisted down the stairs.
- After six hours of silence, the FBI and Pennsylvania authorities held an impotent press conference early Sunday morning and offered no new information. No Secret Service member attended the presser, nor did Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
- There are many questions about how Crook was allowed to get within easy shooting range of Trump. Was it an oversight by management, a staffing problem, a failure by agents on the ground, or something else?
- In a statement this morning on Truth Social, Trump urged Americans to "stand United, and show our True Character as Americans, remaining Strong and Determined, and not allowing Evil to Win."
- We are awaiting a new televised statement from President Biden, who flew back to Washington from his beach estate last night.
