The airlift operation, which occurred Sunday, serves as the latest sign of Haiti's societal troubles, as locals in its capital, Port-au-Prince, continue to report the stench

The neighborhood around the embassy in the capital has been one of the hardest-hit

Its success was revealed in a statement from the US military's Southern Command later in the day

Violence in the Caribbean country broke out out this past week, and has since threatened to bring down the local government and other state institutions

As gangs across the country continue to unite, thousands have had fled their homes, and politicians across the region are still scrambling for a solution

#1 Since Haiti is a former French colony, France should lead the efforts to restore order. If only they had a military organization that specialized in that sort of thing.
