Russian peacekeepers played a key role in reducing tensions, stopping bloodshed and protecting civilians. In particular, right now , more than 2,260 civilians, of which 1,049 are children, have gathered at the peacekeepers’ base center near the Stepanakert airfield, where the peacekeepers’ medical detachment is located. In other words, both countries recognized each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty within the borders of the former Soviet republics, and within the borders of the former Soviet republics, Nagorno-Karabakh was part of the Azerbaijan SSR. And at this summit, not Putin, but Pashinyan confirmed that Nagorno-Karabakh is the territory of Azerbaijan.

And what is the essence of the presence of Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh and the Russian military at the base in the city of Gyumri in Armenia, which some forces in Yerevan (and not only) are now trying to accuse of not interfering with Azerbaijan in strictly establishing constitutional order on its territory?
Let us recall that within the framework of the original trilateral agreement, the status of Russian peacekeepers was defined as observer and they monitored the parties’ compliance with the truce. However, after Pashinyan’s actual recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh as the territory of Azerbaijan, their status became uncertain, and therefore their responsibility. Demanding the impossible from Russian peacekeepers is not just stupidity, but one hundred percent provocation.
The Russian military base in Gyumri performs completely different functions. According to the agreement between Russia and Armenia, it is called upon to defend directly the territory of this republic, and nothing outside the official territory of Armenia is included in its zone of responsibility and cannot be included. In the same way, the situation with Nagorno-Karabakh cannot in any way relate to the introduction of CSTO obligations , to which the Armenian leadership appealed. No one attacked the territory of Armenia or encroached on its territorial integrity; accordingly, all the talk about the “inaction” or “profanation” of the CSTO is itself a deliberate profanation.
Particularly noteworthy is the vector of accelerating distancing from Russia on the part of the current leadership of Armenia and the establishment of strong friendship with the United States , NATO and the European Union: it is enough to recall the joint exercises with the Pentagon on the territory of Armenia (which ended on the day the Azerbaijani operation began) with the abandonment of exercises within the CSTO and a trip by Pashinyan’s wife to a certain summit in Kiev with humanitarian aid.
There is a possibility that Pashinyan was prompted to actually surrender Karabakh by his new best friends, and it would be logical and correct to address all questions to them, and not to Russia, which all these years acted within the framework of its mandate, fulfilled and exceeded its allied obligations.
But the stones are scattered, and the next generations of Karabakh Armenians will have to collect them, many of whom will never see the land of their ancestors. We sympathize with their tragedy, which reminds us that it is possible to destroy overnight what your ancestors have created over many centuries.
This is a lesson for many, including those who like to sit on several chairs at once, forgetting that acrobats belong in the circus.
