American tourists killed after being kidnapped in Mexico ID'd as Shaeed Woodard and Zindell Brown
[NYPOST] The two Americans who were found dead in Mexico after being kidnapped at gunpoint during a terrifying shootout between rival cartel gangs have been identified as Shaeed Woodard and Zindell Brown.

A US official familiar investigation confirmed the identities to CNN
...the organization formerly known as the Cable News Network. Now who knows what it might stand for...

Woodward and Brown had traveled from South Carolina to Mexico with pals Latavia "Tay" McGee and Eric James so McGee could undergo a tummy tuck procedure, relatives said Monday.

Shortly after the foursome crossed the border Friday into the crime-ridden city of Matamoros, located in the northeastern state of Tamaulipas, they became caught in the crosshairs of a violent mostly peaceful cartel showdown.

Harrowing video of the shootout shows the moment the group was forced into the back of a pickup truck in broad daylight after being shot at.

McGee and James survived the attack and were rushed Tuesday to Brownsville, Texas in a convoy of ambulances and SUVs escorted by Mexican military Humvees and National Guard trucks with mounted .50-caliber machine guns.

Police said one of the two survivors was severely injured, but didn’t specify whom.

McGee’s mother said that her daughter was supposed to get her operation on the day of the kidnapping.

In simple terms, it calls up the peanut butter test: "If it looks like peanut butter, smells like peanut butter, spreads like peanut butter, it might be caviar, but its probably peanut butter"

It's entirely possible - stressing the 'possible' - that this is an partially accurate story for a couple reasons.

* The rental car isn't much of an issue - I pass an Enterprise rental lot every day to and from work, and there are cars there with SC, NC, FL, GA, and other plates.

* I want to phrase this part carefully, lest I be accused of insensitivity to others: There is a huge market among certain groups for cosmetic surgery whether they need it or not, and whether or not they have insurance that can/will pay for it. Mexico caters to that market with cash and carry plastic surgery, and frankly, you get what you can afford to pay for. For a couple thousand, you can get it done, though I would be very hesitant to stake my life on it.

Now - having said all that - it doesn't take three guys to escort somebody for something like this. I wouldn't be ruling out the idea that they figured as long as they were headed that way, they could do some shopping. They went to the wrong place at the wrong time.

The entirety of the middle and upper classes of Latin America, I believe. I have a Canadian girlfriend who married into a Mexican family, and she was given a nose job as a wedding gift by a surgeon friend of her husband’s. She went back to him in Mexico City for various other surgeries in the years that followed...

.Most health insurance plans do not cover cosmetic surgery, or only for very limited, health-related things. The same girlfriend got her eldest son a nose job by arguing that it would be part of the repair of a severely deviated septum that resulted from his nose having been broken in childhood.

#19 Don't get me wrong. I love the Mexican people I know and associate with in San Diego/Tijuana. My ex's uncle is an accomplished plastic surgeon in Tijuana, and my kids have done well with him. Coolest guy and family. I just don't actually think that was what they were there for, except as an add-on

#20 Here is a fundamental difference between Mexican cartels and Pappa John’s. Mexican cartels just do delivery. There is no option to save on the delivery charge with pick up at a drive thru window. Stay at home and have them deliver the drugs where you have the gang and guns.
