Although the fact that we have NOT conducted a TRIAL of KSM and his henchman with the Military Commissions framework makes me wonder what remains.

KSM issued what is in effect an Ops Order for the attack. Centralized planning and decentralized execution was the rule. The planning covered in detail the tactics, operational control/comms, the "looming tower" order of execution, the funding, all the way to shaping of the strategic and political implications and messaging post attack.

The attack on the US was just one part of the overall operation. The execution of Ahmad Shah Massoud initiated the op, the strike on the US centers of political, military, and economic centers of gravity followed. There were indicators that an assassination attempt against Saddam Hussein was planned as well, but was disrupted by Hussein's security.

Interestingly enough to N2N1's point, the most highly classified information regarding all of this was the classification of political information immediately after the attack. Much of it is still classified. Obama declassified the meat of it a few years ago. But, what lingers behind the wall?

What I remember from that day.
I am on a Teleconference call with my VP of sales and VP of Enterprise practices. We are discussing the IT Security presentation I had present back in Feb. of that year to the NY/NJ Port Authority. Where I warned the Port Authority they needed to better secure and disbuse their computer center operations. Given there had already been one attack on the WTC some years before (the parking garage bomber) and I was immediately cut off by a high ranking client and my Sales person was told to end my presentation.

On 9-11, we were then discussing how to resubmit the needed IT SEC and disbursal purposal, when my screen lit-up telling me that the 1st plane had hit, by some NOC Team members.

I then mention the that WTC was hit to the VP's and maybe a hacker had played with the Rabbit (USAF gargone for Runway IFR landing beacon). Then the 2nd hit. A VP then said "It looks like we aren't going to get anything done today..." and hung up.

The next day I got a call and told to deleted the Feb. IT Sec presentation and related materials.

Roughly OBL's plan was to eliminate his competition in AF by assassinating Massoud, strike the US to elevate his stature, and assassinate Saddam and emplace an AQ influenced proxy in order to control the largest Arab land Army in ME. OBL already had proxies emplaced in Africa, Yemen, and had SA paying tithes to him to be left alone. OBL's end desire was to be more of a modern Saladin than a Caliph. OBL believed that an attempt to establish a modern Caliphate was premature.

Regarding Saddam, OBL and Saddam were not allies...they were competitors for the whole Saladin visage...and all it takes to change the government of a dictatorship is one bullet. OBL was willing to to invest in that change for the opportunity to emplace a proxy that he could control.
