A teenage Paleostinian shot Saturday by Israeli soldiers during festivities in the northern West Bank has died of his wounds, the Paleostinian Authority Health Ministry said Sunday.
Kamel Abdullah Alawneh, 17, was shot in the stomach and hand during fighting with Israeli soldiers outside a town near Jenin, PA health officials said.
According to both military and Paleostinian media accounts, Alawneh was shot while clashing with Israeli troops who set up a checkpoint at the entrance to the village of Jaba’.
The Israel Defense Forces said a Paleostinian hurled a Molotov cocktail at the soldiers, who fired at the suspect in response.
"A hit was identified," an IDF statement said. "The circumstances of the incident are being clarified."
No troops were maimed.
Video from Ibn Sina Hospital in Jenin shortly after Alawneh’s death was announced Sunday showed scores of Paleostinian men chanting "millions of deaders are marching to Jerusalem," as they brought a flag-draped body through the hospital’s hallways.
