After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....

"A Sarpanch, Manzoor Ahmad Bangroo shot at and injured by bully boyz in Goshbugh Pattan in Baramulla district. He has been rushed to a hospital," according to ANI.
"Terrorists fired upon independent sarpanch Manzoor Ahmad at Goshbugh area of Pattan in district Baramulla leaving him critically injured. He was shifted to hospital where doctors declared him brought dead," said J&K Police.
