Many casualties caused by land mines in Kobani

KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, a child was seriously injured in a landmine explosion while grazing sheep in the village of Qaramogh, 20 km east of Kobani, north Syria.

The 16-year old child, Khalil Othman Mahmoud, was seriously injured and was taken to Kobani Hospital, Kaniwar Muhammad, from the Qaramogh village told North Press.

The child was grazing sheep near the border strip when the mine exploded, Muhammad added.

The child sustained severe injuries in the abdomen, causing bleeding. He has been undergoing surgery for several hours in the hospital, a medical source from Kobani Hospital said.

On November 24, 2021, an tractor driver was injured by a mine explosion while plowing agricultural land near the village of Zor Maghar in the western countryside of Kobani.

Similarly, in September 2021, two children lost their lives by a landmine explosion while grazing sheep in the village of Seftek, 10 km west of Kobani, near the Syrian-Turkish border.

The mines in Kobani and its countryside date back to either the era of the ISIS attack on the city, or they were planted at different times on the Syrian-Turkish border.
