2 Killed by Gunmen at Nangarhar Wedding: Family
[ToloNews] At least two people were killed and ten others were maimed after members allegedly belonging to local forces opened fire on a gathering at a wedding party in Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
on Friday, the family claimed on Saturday.

According to the family, the incident took place on Friday night in Marghondai village of Surkroad district.

The family claims that the forces belonged to a local checkpoint.

"I told them that they are young--let them play the music--
...one sees the family's mistake immediately...
but they dragged me back and opened fire, some of the boys were maimed and two others were killed," said Noor Hazrat, a family member of the victims.

The Islamic Emirate spokesmen said the button men do not belong to the Islamic Emirate, adding the incident was caused by a personal dispute.
“They thought they were free. They were shown their error.”
Local officials confirmed the incident and said an investigation had been launched.

A security source told TOLOnews that two perpetrators had been arrested for firing.

The witness said the attackers also broke the musical instruments.

"It was nearly midnight. Three people entered the house. One of them broke the musical instruments and then went out and then opened fire on approximately 50 people," said Abdul Bassir, a witness.

The maimed were transferred to the provincial hospital.

"A person was shot in the leg. I wanted to help him. When I drove the car, one of them told me to go but another one opened fire," said Abdul Fawad, one of the maimed.

"They opened fire and then escaped," said Sayed Akbar, one of the maimed.

Taliban fighters shoot two dead over listening to wedding music

Taliban

fighters rubbed out two wedding guests who were listening to music, local officials and a witness said Saturday, forcing Afghanistan’s new government to insist such attacks are not authorized.A relative of the victims said Taliban fighters had opened fire while music was being played at a wedding in Sorkhrud, in Nangarhar province in the east of the country, killing two and wounding two more.

Music was banned the last time the Taliban ruled Afghanistan and, while the new government has not yet issued such a decree, its leadership still frowns on its use in entertainment and sees it as a breach of Islamic law.

"The young men were playing music in a separate room and three Taliban fighters came and opened fire on them. The injuries of the two maimed are serious," he told news hounds.

Qazi Mullah Adel, front man for the Taliban governor in Nangarhar, confirmed the incident but did not provide further details. A security source said the two men who attacked the wedding are now in jug.

In Kabul, government front man Zabihullah Mujahid said he could not confirm the incident, but promised that it was not Taliban policy to execute music lovers.

"Investigations are continuing. So far, it’s not clear how it happened," he said. "Is it a personal matter or what?

"In the ranks of the Islamic Emirate no one has the right to turn anyone away from music or anything, only to try to persuade them. That is the main way," he told a news conference.

"If anyone kills someone by himself, even if they are our personnel, that is a crime and we will introduce them to the courts and they will face the law."

The previous Taliban government between 1996 and 2001 imposed a very strict interpretation of Islamic law and harsh public punishments.

But, since returning to power in mid-August after overthrowing the US-backed government the Taliban, seeking international recognition and an end to sanctions, has tried to show a more moderate face.
