Last man out of Afghanistan: Two-star general and 30-year Army veteran Christopher Donahue is revealed as the final American soldier to board a plane out of Kabul Airport

Maj Gen Christopher Donahue, 52, was the last soldier to leave Afghanistan

He flew out on the final flight at 3:29pm Washington time on Tuesday, or one minute before midnight in Kabul

Donahue is the commander of the 82nd Airborne Division, based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina

His division is the nation's Immediate Response Force, and they are positioned to deploy anywhere in the world within 18 hours of notification

Donahue has deployed 17 times in support of operations in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, and Eastern Europe

He served in the special forces before studying at Harvard and working in the Pentagon as special assistant to the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff

Donahue, a two star general, deployed to Afghanistan in mid August and was given the job of maintaining security at the airport
