After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....

ISLAMABAD - A special in-camera session of Parliamentary Defence Committee on National Security was held and presided by Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaisar here on Thursday. Besides members of the committee, selected parliamentarian of all major political parties were also invited for the subject briefing.

(ISI) Lt General Faiz Hameed comprehensively briefed the members on internal and external national security paradigm in the ever evolving geo-political / strategic environment. The briefing covered the core national interests including Afghanistan and Kashmir.

The members appreciated the efforts of COAS and DG ISI in identifying various challenges and providing clarity on the issues confronted by Pakistain through a detailed and informative briefing. Pakistain’s Armed Forces (AFs) and ISI is fully aware of enemies nefarious designs and all such efforts would be defeated through befitting response.

The Parliamentary Committee was told that Pakistain will welcome a true representative government of the people in Afghanistan at all forums and continue to play its positive role for peace in the war-torn neighbouring country.

The high-level closed-door huddle was also attended by the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Shehbaz Sharif and PPP Chairman Bilawal Baby Bhutto Zardari

Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Lt General Faiz Hameed briefed the participants on key foreign affairs, internal and external security challenges, developments taking place in the region, particularly the Kashmir issue and the ongoing situation in Afghanistan, an official communiqué read. Besides top politicianship, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, DG ISPR Major Gen Babar Iftikhar and heads of other security institutions also attended the meeting.

In addition to the members of the committee, several politicians were especially invited to the meeting to take them into confidence with regards to the recent developments in Afghanistan and national security.

DG ISI Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed told the parliamentary committee that Pakistain has played a very positive and responsible role in Afghan grinding of the peace processor. The participants were also told that due to Pakistain’s efforts not only was the path paved for talks between different Afghan factions and warring groups but also meaningful dialogue between the US and Taliban

was also started. The DG said that the country firmly believes that sustainable peace in Afghanistan will lead to stability in South Asia.

DG ISI told the meeting that Pakistain’s land is not being used in the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan and also hoped that Afghanistan’s soil will not be used against Pakistain, according to the statement issued by the ministry of information.

He told the committee that 90 percent work on erecting the fence along the Pak-Afghan border has been completed and that an effective mechanism for Customs and border control was also being formulated.
