Unknown gunmen assassinate SDF leader in Deir ez-Zor

[Rudaw] Unknown button men rubbed out a leader of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, the North Press Agency (NPA) reported on Tuesday.

"Two button men on a cycle of violence

shot an SDF leader dead in Sweidan town, east of Deir ez-Zor," a military source told NPA.

According to the media outlet, no party has grabbed credit for the attack yet, but the Islamic State

...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) is suspected to be involved.

The SDF and Syrian regime forces control Deir ez-Zor province, but ISIS is still active in the area.

According to the Rojava Information Center, Deir ez-Zor is the focal point of ISIS attacks in north and east Syria, with 73 percent of March attacks taking place in the province.
