This is not the first time, early reports indicate that al-Qaeda and imported muscle were killed in various operations in the ranks of the Taliban fighters.

Taliban have repeatedly denied having kept any links to al-Qaeda but several senior members of the group were killed during the recent months in Taliban-controlled regions.

Under the US-Taliban agreement, the Taliban are required to cut and sever all ties with al-Qaeda and other international "terrorist" groups.

province by Commandos, the Special Operations Corps said in a statement Tuesday.

Afghan commandos rescued in a rescue operation freed at least 28 Afghan civilians from a Taliban prison in Helmand province.

The Special Operations Corps in a released statement on Tuesday said the operation was conducted on Monday night in Musa Qala district of the province.

Afghan commandos during the operation also killed six Taliban members.

Many weapons belonging to the Talibs were also seized by the spec ops unit.

No further details were provided in regards to the identity of the freed civilians.

Taliban has not yet commented on the rescue mission conducted by the Afghan commandos.
