Thousands of bikers descend on South Dakota town for 10-day Sturgis Motorcycle Rally which is expected to draw 250,000 people - sparking coronavirus concerns among residents

Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally will run from Friday, August 7, through Sunday, August 16, despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic

Officials say they were powerless to stop the annual event, as many bikers indicated they would descend on the city regardless

Usually 500,000 people attend the event each year, but organizers are anticipating around half that number over the next 10 days

On Friday, attendees were seen gathering close together without face masks as the first day of the rally kicked off

Revelers have arrived from all over the country; one store is selling 'Screw Covid' shirts
