'Afghan police officers killed in Taliban 'insider' attack
[Aljazeera] At least 11 Afghan police officers have been killed after Taliban fighters stormed a police base in northern Baghlan province, local government officials told Associated Press on Tuesday.

The fighters first overran a checkpoint near the base late on Monday, and were apparently able to breach the compound with ease because a sympathetic policeman opened a door for them.

A spokesman for the Taliban fighters, Zabiullah Mujahid, however, put the death toll at 17, adding that one officer was taken hostage. The group is known to exaggerate its claims.
Oooooohhhhh, how beautifully dry. Could the reporter have trained in British English?
The attack comes a day after Taliban claimed it shot down an American military plane in Ghazni province - a claim the US military denies.
Update from Tolo News at 2:15 pm CT:
At least nine police were killed in a Taliban attack in northern Baghlan province on Monday night, a security source confirmed on Tuesday.

Also, three policemen are missing, the source added.

The Taliban attacked a police base in Khawja Alwan in Pul-e-Khumri, the center of Baghlan, according to the source.

There are reports that 16 policemen were killed in the attack, including commanders. The Baghlan police have not yet confirmed the casualties.

The base is on the Baghlan-Samangan highway.

The Taliban took responsibility for the attack and claimed they stole police weapons and vehicles.
