#1 DEBKA: First report: Hizballah took responsibility for anti-tank rocket fire into northern Israel on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 1, claiming to have hit IDF vehicles and caused casualties. The IDF has returned the fire. The area targeted was near Moshav Avivim. There are no immediate reports of Israeli casualties. Israel responded at once with air strikes and heavy artillery fire against the sources of Hizballah fire and Lebanese villages in the Maroun al Ras and Yaroun in South Lebanon.
A short time earlier, the IDF advised all civilians living within a 4km radius from the Lebanese border to stay indoors and open their bomb shelters.

Nonetheless, security forces are preparing for the possibility of a violent round of fighting that could lead to another strike in Lebanon. Aerial defense batteries have been deployed in the north to thwart drones and other umanned aerial vehicles that terror organization may try to launch to attack Israel. The Israeli army has also instructed that the airspace near the northern border be closed off. The Israel Navy, meanwhile, is preparing for possible attacks on Israeli vessels.
