Shukrullah Shakir, the district governor of Zenda Jan district in the western province of Herat, was killed in a roadside kaboom blast on Saturday, sources confirmed.
The incident happened in Zenda Jan district when a vehicle carrying the district governor hit a roadside kaboom.
Two others were also killed in the incident, sources said.
The provincial governor’s front man Jailani Farhad confirmed the incident but did not give details about the casualties.
He said that telecom services are not working in Zenda Jan district, therefore, they could not get more information about the incident.
Zenda Jan district is located in the central parts of Herat and shares borders Gulran, Injil and Guzara districts.
Jilani Farhad, a spokesman for the Governor’s Office in Herat said a roadside bomb went off in Tarakhel area of Zindajan district, killing four people.
Farhad further added that the explosion killed Shukrullah Shakir, the district governor of Zindajan, his brother and two security guards.
Furthermore, Farhad said the explosion also wounded five security guards of Mr. Shakir.
The anti-government armed militants have not commented regarding the incident so far.
