Puntland state forces begin operation following militant attack
|

Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion...

captured a key base this week.
The local authorities say the state troops are hunting al-Shabaab and the ISIS-linked bully boyz in the mountainous areas, where the US military is carrying out dronezaps.
The move came days after al-Shabaab fighters retook Af-Urur base near Bosaso city after Puntland soldiers withdrew from the area over unknown reasons before the capture.
For years, Puntland has been facing security threats from al-Shabaab and Islamic State
 ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
