Sri Lanka slaps controls on mosques after Easter attacks, DNA test to check dead dude is ringleader
|
 [DAWN] The Sri Lankan government on Friday ordered mosques to clamp down on forces of Evil and to submit copies of sermons in new fallout from the Easter suicide kabooms that left 258 dead.
The country has been on edge since the April 21 attacks by jihadist bombers who attacked three churches and three Colombo hotels which also left 500 people injured.
The Ministry of Moslem Religious and Cultural Affairs said mosques must not be used for radicalising congregations.
"In view of the prevailing situation in the country, the ministry directs all trustees of mosques not to engage in or permit any gathering to promote or propagate hatred or extremism in any form," the ministry said.
It said all mosques must submit copies of sermons given within their premises.

Since the attacks, the government has carried out raids across the country and killed several suspected radicals. At least 56 suspects are in jug, according to police, while authorities have also expelled 200 foreign holy mans who had overstayed their visas.

half a dozen locals in his hometown of Kattankudy and others who knew him have told Rooters that video surveillance footage taken in a lift before the April 21 attack, showing a man who Sherlocks believe is the bomber, appears to depict a far slimmer man than Hashim, with a different gait.
The clip is short, though, and the man's face is partially hidden by a cap. Hashim had disappeared from public view several months before the attacks.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake ordered state judiciary medical officials to check the bomber's remains against his daughter's DNA.
Dissanayake said he was responding to a request by the criminal investigation department.
A top intelligence official told Rooters that facial identification had confirmed that the dead jacket wallah was Zahran.
"But since there is a dispute, we are going for a DNA test," he said.
Sri Lankan authorities believe the bombings were carried out by two little-known domestic Islamist groups, the National Tawheed Jamaath (NTJ) and Jamathei Millathu Ibrahim (JMI). Islamic State has grabbed credit.
Investigators from eight countries, including the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation and Interpol, are helping with the investigation.
