Idlib: heavy clashes between Syrian army and FSA, Al Nusra big turban killed

Heavy clashes rage across Idlib buffer zone as Russian spy planes observe from above

[AlMasdar] (8:30 A.M.) – The Idlib buffer zone witnessed another night of heavy clashes between the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Islamist rebels, as the aforementioned parties continue their hostilities in northwest Syria.

According to a military source in the government stronghold of Mhardeh, the Syrian Arab Army opened fired on a group of fighters from the Free Syrian Army’s (FSA) Jaysh Al-Izza faction last night after they were observed moving through the Al-Latamnah and Massasnah areas.

Following the clashes near Massasnah, the Syrian Arab Army expanded their assault to Arabeen and Markabeh, prompting another fierce exchange with the Jaysh Al-Izza fighters in this part of the northern Hama countryside.

The clashes between the two parties would continue at dawn this morning, despite the presence of Russian spy planes across the skies of the Idlib province.

A source from the Syrian Army said that the Russian IL-20 spy planes were conducting low altitude flights over the Idlib buffer zone and hovering above the Islamist rebel positions along the Hama-Idlib axis.

The Russian Air Force has been conducting these surveillance flights over the Idlib Governorate for two days now, as the situation around the buffer zone continues to fall apart.

Senior jihadist commander assassinated in southern Idlib

[AlMasdar] (12:00 A.M Dec. 8.) – A senior jihadist commander was assassinated this evening inside the southern countryside of the Idlib Governorate.

According to opposition activists via social media, a senior field commander from Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham, “Abu Fahd Al-Miri”, was killed by unknown assailants in the southern countryside of Idlib this evening.

No group has claimed responsibility for the assassination.

The assassination of Al-Miri comes just days after another high ranking jihadist commander was killed by an unknown group inside rural Idlib.

Since the latest round of peace talks in Astana, there has been an increase in assassinations of jihadist leaders, prompting some opposition activists to accuse the Syrian government forces of carrying out these attacks.

The Syrian government has not commented on these allegations.
