Gunmen abduct former Benghazi mayor
[Libya Observer] Former Benghazi mayor and deputy spy chief of the east-based Interim Government Ahmed Araibi has been kidnapped in Arid Lamloum, Benghazi, identical sources reported.

Eyewitnesses said they heard gunshots during the abduction by "military men" in "five military vehicles."

They added that the vehicles had left after the shotguns ended and afterwards a military ambulance arrived in the residential area from where Araibi was kidnapped.

"Brigadier General Araibi was kidnapped with his son from his house and the CCTV cameras were broken by the kidnappers." Araibi's sister said on her Facebook page.

Sources said that the kidnappers are from Salafist brigade Tariq Bin Ziyad that is loyal to Khalifa Haftar

While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. reacting to the kidnap, the member of the House of Representatives Essam al-Jihani said he was waiting for the response of the official authorities regarding the abduction of Araibi.

He added on his Facebook that he wants Aqilah Saleh, Khalifa Haftar, Abdelrazik al-Nathori, and all authorities of the Interim Government to say something about the incident.

"This is a very bad indication, whether it was an abduction or an arrest." al-Jihani added.
