Daraa: Infighting in western countryside hardened living conditions
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] The two months of relieve people in Yarmouk basin enjoyed, have ended with the start of clashed between Ahrar al-Sham
...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. They make up the main element of the Islamic Front but they don't profess adoration of al-Qaeda and they've been fighting (mainly for survival) against the Islamic State. Their leadership was wiped out at a single blow by a suicide kaboom at a crowded basement meeting in September, 2014...
and the Syrian Free Army (FSA) from one side, with Khalid Bin al-Walid brigade from the other side.

Villages of Yarmouk basin in the far Western countryside of Daraa witnessed two months ago a period of calmness in fighting between Ahrar al-Sham together with FSA against Khalid Bin al-Walid brigade, as goods, food and fuel became available, but at the beginning of the festivities, prices soared and started to disappear from the market, because clashed led to stopping goods coming from the Western countryside villages like Nawa, Tasil and Saham, which were the main source for goods provided to villages of Yarmouk basin.

Marwan, 31, a vegetable vendor told Eqtsad: "vegetables disappeared from the market immediately after hearing the shooting, all what left in market are products produced locally like tomatoes, eggplants and okra, but their prices have almost doubled, as Tomatoes rose directly from SYP125 to SYP 250, while the a kilogram of eggplant increased from SYP100 to SYP150, while the price of a kilogram of okra rose from SYP 250 to SYP350 and mallow from SYP 175 Syrian pounds to SYP 250 per a kilogram. Saeed, 42, fuel trader confirmed that all kinds of fuel have disappeared from market, while the price of the small amount left has soar, added to complete disappearance of gas for a week, and the price of one container of gas has increased by SYP2000 hitting SYP 8500.
Saeed added that the price of a liter of diesel rose from SYP 350 Syrian pounds to 550, while benzene from SYP 750 to 900..

Saeed added that due to the rise in the prices of fuel, transportation has stopped and people returned to move from place to another on foot.

He added that not allowing big amount of diesel from entering the Yarmouk basin has prevented bakeries from that essential fuel leading to production halt leading to job losses for many people depriving their families from source of income, not to forget the effects of that on bread availability as the price of one bag has reached to SYP250.

Abo Abdulla, a retired employee detailed: "not allowing the fuel products in Yarmouk basin force relief agency to provide bread from other villages, but delivering bread usually delayed and the amount was not enough for all people, added to fighting and festivities those affected the delivery and many times prevented villages from their share of bread.

he added that making bread in bakeries outside the Yarmouk basin implied more expenses and resulted in decreasing the amount of bread allocated to each family, beside the low quality of bread, which pushed many families to make an bake their bread themselves using chimneys and ovens or kilns, but still quite costly as the price of a kilogram of flour reached to SYP250 and a family of 5 needs 3 kilogram of flour daily. Hassan, 27 years, poultry seller confirmed that chicken meat has completely disappeared from markets of villages controlled by Khalid Bin al-Walid brigade, without finding any explanation, but he expected that a form of monopoly done by traders to raise the price later.

Hassan mentioned that poultry is available in markets of Western countryside and other liberated areas, but the price of a kilogram ranged between SYP800 and 1000, but the price of one kilogram in villages of the far Western countryside reached to SYP1300 due to difficulties in transporting goods and food though barriers. He mentioned that eggs are rare and the price of a 30-egg-box reached to SYP1350.

Samer, a teacher confirmed that living has become too difficult due to absence of most products and soar prices, especially primary materials used in agriculture, forcing farmers to move to other places and rent fields to plant aiming that might bring them some income.

Abo Ahmed, an engineer complained that all prices in Yarmouk basin are high, claiming that due to rise in the exchange rate of the US. Dollar, but prices do not come down even if the dollar price dropped.

Yarmouk basin has witnessed for more than a year intensive fighting between Shohada’a al-Yarmouk brigade that named later as Khalid Bin al-Walid from one side and Fateh al-Sham and Ahrar al-Sham from the other, which coincided with new rules forced on areas controlled by the brigade of Khalid bin al-Walid which affected movement and transportation of people and goods.
