#1 Why is this bothering the west so bad? They weren't going to do anything about this conflict, and I would rather Russia be the big man in there than Iran.

#4 Yes, at some point the Russians had to go 'all in' in order to save their Navy base at Tartus. All in all, quite predictable as EU has indicated.

#5 I thought the Russians were in Latakia, not Tartus. Neither have a lot of room, but Latakia is larger and has more docking space. It's also closer to the airfield in Latakia province.
