#1 Mewonders if ISIS is all hat and no ranch.

Give the opposition a gun and a grenade and they seem to fold.

ISIS basic tactics are WWI British meat grinder tactics.

#2 Opposition also needs a spine. Kurds have one, Iraqi army doesn't...

#3 Terrorists are called 'elements' Sergeant Mohammed al-Chromium, was sent to his virgins today. Marie Harf is pleased that 72 women got employment.

#4 Mewonders if ISIS is all hat and no ranch.

It appears that IS is divided into two separate 'franchises': one in Syria, one in Iraq. There is a pronounced difference between the two. The hardcore, veteran elements of IS are in the former, while the latter uses either local help or those (for various reasons) deemed not ready for the big-leagues.

I surmise that the IS Iraqi area of ops is considered by their leadership as more of a buffer zone or holding action. There are several possibilities:

1. It may be that IS views taking western Syria and parts of Lebanon as a priority, including wiping out "moderate" rebel groups.

2. It could also be that the IS wishes to conserve and consolidate (perhaps dwindling) combat assets for those operations, and/or in order to hold the territory they already have.

3. It's possible that IS now has more 'bodies' than weapons and experience. Hence what we saw at Kobane and what we may be seeing within Iraq. Throw cannon fodder into the theater to tie down opposition forces within Iraq and then draw off the most capable/reliable for use elsewhere.
