#2 There's plenty of "snotty that seemingly doesn't mind being colonized" in all Western nations including the US. ("Islam is peace!", "The future must not belong...")

I'm not trying to defend the European mainstream, nor am I gloating. This is an alarming diagnosis.

I don't believe that cowardice is behind this mindset though. The enemy is weak, so weak that it can't be said to exist as a military power. Hence asymmetrical warfare.

What plagues Western elites seems to be zero cultural self-confidence and, for lack of a better word, masochism.

Restoring deterrence after 9/11 would have been easy and cheap for the West, and painful for the Arab-Islamic world, the leaders and the people.

Our betters decided that this wasn't the way to go. Now we're paying the price.
