'Bin Laden's Drugs Plot To Kill Thousands'
Osama bin Laden tried to buy a massive amount of cocaine, spike it with poison and sell it in the United States hoping to kill thousands, according to reports. The plot failed when Colombian drug lords decided it would be bad for business if they got involved in the deal.
Ya don't say. Few more shrewd bidness people in the world than a Columbian drug dealer.
An investigation by the US Drug Enforcement Administration has examined how advanced the plot became when it was hatched a year after the September 11 attacks on New York and Washington. The Washington Post has reviewed a document detailing the DEA's findings in the matter, in addition to interviewing sources familiar with the case.

Osama bin Laden personally met leaders of a Colombian drug cartel to in 2002 to negotiate the purchase of tons of cocaine, saying that he was willing to spend tens of millions of dollars to finance the deal. "They wanted to kill thousands of people - more than the World Trade Centre," said a source.

Although the drug lords would have reaped millions of dollars in profits by selling the cocaine to bin Laden, they knew that if his plan succeeded it might effectively destroy the market for their cocaine in America.
They prob'ly recalled the fairy tale about the Golden Goose ...
The other was their fear of retaliation from the US government once its citizens started to die from the drugs, according to sources.
And we might not take the trouble to figure out the final points of who did what ...
In 2002, the then DEA Director Asa Hutchinson said: "The DEA [has] received multi-source information that Osama bin Laden himself has been involved in the financing and facilitation of heroin-trafficking activities.

"It is important we recognise that when money goes from the pocket of an American to buy drugs, it may contribute to the financing of unspeakable crimes of violence around the world."

Earlier this year, Afghan tribal leader Hajji Bashir Noorzai who was one of the most wanted drug dealers in the world and previously had been identified as bin Laden's major heroin supplier, was arrested in New York City on federal criminal charges.

#11 I smell rats, here. While Osama ol' boy wouldn't know it, the "drug lords" would. First of all, you're talking distributing a huge amount of cocaine without interdiction, down to street level. Second, all the major US cities get bad batches of drugs all the time, they're used to it, and get the word out to users and dealers pretty effectively. Third, cocaine is unusual in that it has two markets: powder for the rich and crack for the poor. Dealers of powder do *not* want to sell bad product to rich people--they would come up with a test very quickly to maintain quality assurance. This leaves crack, most consumed by the very lowest classes in the US. As a country, would the US even mind, or even notice, if we lost a few thousand crack addicts?

#12 Mass casualties in drug addicts would not be an effective way for Binny to create terror in the general populace. The general populace would not give a rat's behind about addicts' massive dieoffs. Just one of those plans in the universe of ideas that did not go anywhere.

#13 Let me guess - after this operation, bin Laden's next big thing would have been to destroy large sections of the Bronx.

#14 How would Bin Laden meet with Colombian drug cartel members in the first place?

#15 If Binny's got all the Heroin from Afghanistan as the article says why not just use that, he got some love for the smack that he can't pollute it and send it to the heathen Americans?

There are all sorts of ludicrosities in this article. 1 that Binny has to meet with the Columbians to actually buy cocaine directly from the cartels. That's stupid, he could have bought all he wanted through a proxy and done what he damn well wnted with it. Is there some questionnaire you have to fill out to buy from the cartels these days? Mother's maiden name, source of income, last large shipment of cocaine you received and 3 references? Oh and I forgot, two forms of picture ID.

But to follow a previous line of thought, why kill the most useless members of a society? To scare the rest of us? Whatever, Phuck the crackheads, good riddance. This might actually save us money when we don't have to spend healthcare dollars on them. I think we need to file this one under B for bullshit.

#18 Methinks this plan might invoke the law of unintended consequence. Cocaine usage might be a touch higher in areas of Blue America than Red. End result might not be to Osama's favour.
