tl;dr: We are learning how to use F-35. It's the new thing and we need to play with it to see how best to use its capabilities.

Other than that, it's just more of the same - flying around the edges, sniffing whatever we can sniff. It's not like the old days where you could get really high* and blitz across the Soviet Union at Mach OMG.

* altitude, I mean.
