#1 If by 'out of service' they mean the control of flow, then think about Oroville dam, but without any release thru the turbines. Much more flow over the top until the spillway washes away. Anybody remember the Teton Dam?

#2 the lake impounded by Tabqa is called "Lake Assad"

it holds somewhere over 5 million acre feet of water which is actually more than Lake Oroville

#6 One thing with all these dams is that the total dissolved solids is rising to 4500 mg/L now from 1100 in 1979. That is getting too high to drink. In the US, 500 mg/l is the maximum contaminant level in drinking water.
