#1 radiation causes cancers and birth defects, and small amounts cause tiny tiny tiny fractional percentages.

But because hundred million + people live across europe, that tiny tiny tiny fractional percentage means there are a number of people who will suffer from this, whether it is a few hundred or a few thousand.

I knew a young irish lad who had thyroid cancer, and his thyroid removed due to the tiny tiny tiny amount of radiation that fell on ireland and was in the milk after chernobyl when he was a baby.

#2 Radioactive iodine is one of those things we know for sure causes increases in cancer. Unlike most radiation scares.

#4 Probably has to be either a reactor release, or nuclear weapon. Wonder if they detected any other radioactive daughters. Knowing the composition of the daughters can tell a lot about the nuclear reaction that formed them.
