#1 I've thought for a while that Saudi can't stand by and let Iran take control in Iraq.

A Yemen style intervention is unlikely unless they can convince the US and NATO to stand aside, which may happen if Trump gets elected. Or they convince Egypt to send it's military in.

Iran can fight ragtag rebels, but would stand no chance against Saudis modern weapons in an open confrontation. At least for long enough for Saudi to smash Iran's oil infrastructure, which is all Saudi would really want. A broke Iran is no threat.
