#8 bman - possibly not. Remember the No Fly zone prior to OIF? We have been supporting, training and arming (clandestinely) the Kurds for decades, going back to Bush I and Clinton. I wager we have at least a few Kurds we trust (and trained) who may be involved in supporting the Syrian Kurds.

Or maybe the CIA finally let their operations people in the Kurdish regions off the damned leash.
