#1 Of course Hitler lied to everyone. He institutionalized lying via Dr. Joseph Goebbels, his propaganda chief. Goebbels made Baghdad Bob look like an amateur.

#3 Everyone DID lie to him - they were afraid on pain of deth not to, and had too little honor. Except eventually, and too late, a few.

#4 "It is not I who have lost the war, but the German people'."
We're failing because you losers couldn't execute My Brilliant Plan. I've heard CEOs of dying companies say the same thing. Always after what everyone regarded as a run of bad decisions.
I've always wondered how far the Nazis would have gotten if Hitler let his generals run the war.

#7 Well, he's right, you know. Everyone DID lie to him.
However, he's the one who set up the system with perverse incentives. He wasn't one to listen to his generals, and he'd fire them if they insisted on dealing with reality. Even "Hurrying Heinz" Guderian was not immune.
