#8 Both Asimov and Heinlein's last few novels were self-indulgent messes. The short story "Nightfall" is the version I choose to remember.

Nowadays there are websites for the fanfics. In the old days kind authors found an editor to put out cheap paperbacks for the best of the over-the-transom stuff to encourage the youngsters.
