#1 This is what the Ankara correspondent of the German ZDF TV channel reported on yesterday's evening news here in Germany.

The breakthrough was achieved when Obama gave guarantees to Erdogan.

Among them:

A PKK affiliated satellite channel in Denmark will face criminal prosecution.

Turks will be appointed to additional posts in NATO's civilian and military hierarchy. They're probably going to be picked by the Erdogan regime, not the military.

Another guarantee concerns some not specified outreach to the islamic world. I hope Obama didn't promise a NATO apology for the cartoons.

To sum it all up, a price was paid, in my opinion too high a price.

According to Turkish newspaper Hurriyet
Obama "guaranteed" an apology for the Danish cartoons.

If that's true RIP NATO.

Speaking in Baden-Baden, Obama made clear that his administration wants to press the allies to craft a new framework for the future, a new road map to define NATO's roles, missions and way of functioning.

Noting that there are "a whole host of hot spots" bedeviling the West beyond Afghanistan, Obama said, "We've got to figure out what is NATO's role in that." LINK Jakarta Post.
