#1 But the communique also shifted away from long-standing al-Qaeda in Iraq policies. "Do not interfere in social issues such as head covering, the satellite and other social affairs which are against our religion until further notice," Muhajer wrote.

Yes, we will deal with the Not Muslim Enough all in due time...if we're still alive.

#2 "The U.S. military says it destroyed much of the leadership of al-Qaeda in Iraq in 2007, killing 2,400 suspected members and capturing 8,800..."

10,000-20,000 is the equivalent of a military division. Which puts in perspective what we have done.

#3 I will add that, after the fact, if we add up these comparisons of al-Qaeda and other terrorist strengths compared with military unit organizations of the same size, it is possible to develop an after-the-fact Status of Enemy Forces map.

For example, for 2007 alone, Iraq could be shown to have had an enemy division in it, that is now annihilated.

But how many other divisions since 2003? The US has probably taken down the equivalent of between an army and an army group of enemy in the entire WoT, that is between 50,000 and 200,000 enemy fighters of all kinds.

#4 ...orders members to avoid killing Sunni civilians who have not sympathized with the U.S.-backed tribesmen or the government.

So who does that leave? That's alive, I mean.

#5 Okay, let me get this straight: in order to "win over" the sunnis, they'll suspend imposition of sharia law, until they win, after which they will impose on the Iraqis then what the Iraqis dislike and oppose now. Exactly WHAT will have changed in the Iraqis during that time that will make them accept then what they do not like and accept now?

The only thing preventing that imposition is american troops, and it will be imposed if they are withdrawn.

Liberty: won by blood, and lost by stupidity.

#7 AQI is caught in a Quagmire! Reed & Belagosi still don't get it.

#8 Even with as many Islamists as we killed or captured this year in Iraq and elsewhere, there were more than enough replacements born. In 10 years we'll be killing or capturing them. In fact, since we're six years into this war now, we're only 4 years away from fighting their second generation (per the training films revealed the other day.)
That is why it is so important to make the peace WORK, wherever we can - to increase the chance of the next generation believing in and fighting for our side, rather than against it. We must not lose sight of the fact that this is a multi-generational war - when Roggio et al call their site The Long War Journal, they are correct.

#9 Because if we can't spread peace and democracy amongst the people, our next step is to create deserts of glass and call that peace. I'd rather give peace and democracy a chance, first.

#10 AMERICANTHINKER > DETAILING THE DEFEAT OF AL QAEDA IN IRAQ. AQ leader bears his soul. Situation ascribed as "An old man standing on the verge of his grave". POETIC, MORE APPROPRIATE THAN THEY REALIZE, espec given GLOBAL COOLING ALARMISM AHEAD article.

Its when you-know-what-hits-the-fan that HIDDEN IMAMS/MAHDIS are made for, correct! Again, the OSAMA BIN LADEN I know from the Afghan War is IRAN-CENTRIC/FOCUSED, and that NO US-IRAN APOCALYPTIC WAR IN IRAN FOR OSAMA MEANS THE WAR AGZ US-WEST WILL GO ON INDEFINITELY, likely at MINIMA FOR THE NATURAL DURATION OF OBL'S LIFETIME.

IOW, OSAMA [and aligned] > WAR IN IRAQ IS ONLY A BEGINNING, NOT AN END OR EVEN THE WORST!

As before on the Net long ago, 9-11 event > where dedic enemies of the US are concerned, IFF AMERICA DOES NOT ATTACK OR WAGE WAR, AMER WILL BE ATTACKED AND WARRED AGAINST, again and again and again and ....@. AMERICANS MUST FIGHT AND WIN OWG-GLOBAL EMPIRE, AND WHETHER AMERS WANT OWG-GLOBAL EMPIRE OR NOT! AMERS WIN, OR ELSE DIE TRYING TO WIN.

Also from long ago, WOT as WAR FOR ANTI-US EMPIRE > it makes no difference to Amer's enemies whether Amer unilaterally/voluntarily accepts anti-/non-US OWG-NWO, or is milpol forced to do so by the World Community = anti-US UNO, via MILITARY FORCE [WAR].
