#1 Looks like the explanation is that he will testify against the others.

Does that make him a rat, or a Marine?

That's an honest question, on which I have an opinion, but I'd be interested in others' thoughts....

#2 If he tells the truth, including about his own role, he's a Marine.
If he lies or spins to avoid responsibility, he's a rat.
If he tells the truth in a deal to avoid responsibility, he's a Marine rat.

No, Murtha's both an Alzheimer's victim and an idiot - but it's hard to tell where one problem ends and the other begins. His being a Marine is irrelevant. I'll also accept the epithet of "sewer rat" for him - that fits, too.
