#5 Considering Woodward's history of embellishing quotes and outright lies, compared with Mattis and his service...

I'll believe Mattis and Kelly long before I believe Woodward.

Plus, Woodward himself has admitted in the past he goes for shock to sell books.

#7 Leaving aside the issue of whether Woodward could recognize the truth were it to land on him Warner Bros cartoon style, this is a man who quotes Gen Kelly as utilizing the term 'crazy-town'.

A man would have better results facing due west and waiting upon the sunrise than waiting for a Marine 4 star to go all fluttering Mugatu and say that. In the event Gen Kelly was moved to so publicly lose his verbal composure the result would have been masculine, memorable, and definitive.

#14 I'd bet my money on Mattis and Kelly telling the truth over Woodward. Woodward's book suffers from the same sourcing problem that the NYTs anonymous op ed hit piece suffers from.
