#7 Remember, the French reaction to the Soviet bloc was to leave NATO and elect a socialist government. They rejoined NATO after the Soviets collapsed. Their "engagement" with the Russians will be to give them as much as they want, so long as it doesn't interfere with short work weeks, summer vacations, and French delusions of superiority.
