#5 Sarge always said be careful of the quiet ones cause they too often get the idea of "that he was going to die and so had nothing to lose", just stand back and cover his flanks.

#7 I heard a story from a Korean War vet.

The ChiComs attacked a position defended by the Gurkhas with significant loss of life. They pulled back and consolidated, and attacked again.

When they reached the Gurkha wire, the ChiComs were confronted with the heads of their dead, stuck on the barbed wire pickets staring down the hill toward the attackers.

Apparently the sight took the steam out of the ChiCom attack and they withdrew.

I do not know if this story is true, but I've heard it from a couple of sources...of course it could be battlefield mythology.

#11 @ Bill Clinton, sorry it's a myth, the Gurkhas never deployed to Korea during the Korean War. Additionally after 30+ years of reading about the Gurkhas, they may take heads in combat, but is nothing that indicates they would do something like stick heads on the posts.
