Economy
"Are You Guys Incompetent or What?"
Another one of those questions that answers itself, this time posed by CNBC's Maria ("the Money Honey") Bartiromo to Senator Cardin (D. Stupidity). H/T Insty and everyone else. Excerpt from the Breitbart article but the video says it all.
After Bartiromo called Cardin (and all Democrats) out for their duplicitous approach the traders erupted in cheers and applause. They were rewarding her for finally doing what most anchors and reporters refuse to do. Instead of reporting on the fiscal cliff negotiations like it's a football game or a soap opera, we need journalists to actually know the facts and to challenge the narratives presented by the politicians who are trotted out in front of the cameras.

Cardin was not used to being challenged and he wilted. The traders were not used to seeing the challenge and they cheered Bartiromo. We need to see more of this. Who will step up and join Bartiromo? Anyone?
I had the hots for Bartiromo before but now I've gone to point like a setter.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Senior Hamas leader calls for more splodydopes
A senior Hamas leader called on Tuesday for a third intifada and the resumption of suicide bombings against Israel. The demand came in response to the government’s recent decision to approve the construction of hundreds of housing units in east Jerusalem and Ma’aleh Adumim.

Ahmed Halabiyeh, director of the Jerusalem Department in Hamas, said that armed Palestinian groups, including Hamas, should initiate a confrontation with Israel over its plans to build new apartments in Jerusalem and its suburbs. The Palestinians, he added, should resort to various methods of resistance, first and foremost “martyrdom operations in the heart of Israel.”

He urged Palestinians to “ignite a third intifada to save the Aksa Mosque and Jerusalem.”
Any chance that Ahmed himself will strap on a boom belt?
The “enemy is waging a fierce onslaught on Jerusalem and accelerating plans to Judaize the city geographically and demographically,” he told reporters in Gaza City.

Israel, he charged, was spreading the “cancer of settlements to all parts of Jerusalem.”
Since you guys have been rejecting peace and conciliation for the past fifty years, the Israelis have decided that you're not interested in peace and conciliation. So they're going about their business. Funny how that works...
The Hamas official also accused Israel of working to undermine the foundations of the Aksa Mosque to bring about its collapse so it could replace the structure with the Third Temple.
Just motivating the rubes...
Halabiyeh urged Arabs and Muslims to declare a state of full mobilization to “liberate Jerusalem, the Aksa Mosque and Palestine.”

Also on Tuesday, the Palestinian Authority warned that the recent Israeli plans to build new housing projects in Jerusalem would undermine the two-state solution and foil international efforts to reach a just and comprehensive peace in the region.

Nabil Abu Rudaineh, spokesman for the PA presidency, said that the government’s plans would eventually lead to a one-state solution. The “State of Palestine would take all available measures to respond to the Israeli plans, which are a red line that the Palestinians won’t allow to be implemented,” he said.

Abu Rudaineh also condemned Israel’s decision to withhold tax and customs revenues belonging to the PA as a “criminal and aggressive act.”

Israel would have to bear the consequences of its actions, he declared.
It always does, unlike the Paleos...

UAE arrests terror cell plotting attacks
Security forces in the United Arab Emirates have arrested a group of UAE and Saudi Arabian citizens planning to carry out terrorist militant attacks in both countries and in other states.

The arrested group had acquired materials and equipment for use in what the official news agency WAM called terrorist operations. WAM said, "The security authorities in the UAE, in coordination with the related security parties in Saudi Arabia, announced the arrest of an organised cell from the deviant group that was planning to carry out actions against national security of both countries and some brotherly states."

The phrase "the deviant group" is generally used by officials in Saudi Arabia to describe al Qaeda members.

The UAE has escaped the tumult that has rocked the Arab world but moved swiftly to quash any sign of political dissent by detaining more than 60 Islamists this year over alleged threats to state security and links to a foreign group. Those detainees, who belong to an Islamist group called al-Islah, have confessed to setting up a secret organisation with an armed force whose goal was to take power and establish an Islamic state, local media said in September. Islah denied the accusations.

Many of the detained Islamists come from the more religiously conservative northern emirates such as Sharjah and Ras al-Khaimah, from which came one of the Sept. 11 hijackers.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
"Iran among Top 20 Manufacturers of Navy Vessels"
Deputy Head of Iran's Naval Defense Industries Organization Amir Babayee announced on Monday that the country stands among the world's top 20 navy vessels manufacturers, and added that 70 to 90 percent of the parts needed for the construction of these vessels are produced within Iran.

"Iran must be among the top 5 countries of the region in the Naval industries and among the top 20 in the world," Babayee said in a press conference in Tehran on Monday. He downplayed the effects of the sanctions on the progress of Iran's naval defense industries, and said, "Production of some of our military vessels has been indigenized 70 to 90 percent."

Iran's Navy has been transformed into a highly motivated, well-equipped, and well-financed force and is effectively in control of the world's oil lifeline, the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran's naval power has even been acknowledged by foes. In a Sep. 11, 2008 report, the Washington Institute for the Near East Policy said that in the two decades since the Iraqi imposed war on Iran, the Islamic Republic has excelled in naval capabilities and is able to wage unique asymmetric warfare against larger naval forces.

Defense analysts and military observers say that Iran's wargames and its advancements in weapons production have proved as a deterrent factor, specially at a time of heightened threats by the US.

In November, Iranian Navy launched the main structure Sina-7 missile launching frigate. Navy also started using two new home-made Qadir-class light submarines and two hovercrafts. In September, the main structure of the Islamic Republic of Iran Sahand (IRI Sahand) missile destroyer was officially launched by the Iranian Navy in Iran's Southern port city of Bandar Abbas.

Iran's first home-made destroyer, Jamaran, was launched in late February 2010. The Mowdge Class vessel has a displacement of around 14,000 tons and is equipped with modern radars and electronic warfare capabilities and is armed with a variety of anti-ship, surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Automobile rally for Hizb ut-Tahrir in Tatarstan
Hizb ut-Tahrir, banned in Russia for links to terrorism, staged an unsanctioned automobile rally in the Russian republic of Tatarstan, which saw Islamist attacks earlier this year.

About 20 cars rolled down a highway in Tatarstani capital Kazan on Saturday flying Islamist flags.
Golly, twenty cars? That is not what a mass movement looks like. Though to be fair, how many people own have access to automobiles in Tartarstan?
The event was to welcome home a Hizb ut-Tahrir member recently released from prison.

Kazan police said it was not aware of any public event by Hizb ut-Tahrir. A local report said the rally ended before police arrived on the scene.

Unsanctioned public events are an administrative offence in Russia punishable with fines of up to $10,000.

Reports about the rally are based on a set of photographs showing a column of sedans carrying the so-called "black flags of jihad" and their variation in white rolling down a snowy Kazan highway. The photographs first appeared online on Saturday on the Facebook page for Khilafah.com, a website supporting the ideas of the Hizb ut-Tahrir.

#13  My feeble looking 83 year old (at the time) father who lived alone and was almost deaf and of poor vision, noticed with the visual senses he had left, a mangy looking trespasser on his property. He called out from the back door to the trespasser to leave, who realizing my father’s frail state, decided to come right on up to the house. As he started to step up on the back porch my father pointed a semi-automatic AR15 with a 30 round banana clip at the suddenly shocked tresspaser and explained, “I may be about blind but if you move before the police arrive, I bet at least one of these thirty rounds will hit you.”

When you get older you only have to adjust your "security apparatus" accordingly, he explained to his kids and grand kids.

#16  Dedicated Criminals, whether in sole or in a group, will almost always attack from a position of perceived dominance, not parity i.e. John Wayne style "Mano-a-Mano", because they need to strike quickly + get out quickly.

THE "CHICAGO" WAY.

A single-shot or low-fire "defensive" weapon like anti-Gun Lefties want won't cut it agz them, while the State continues to routinely cut or divert, etc. $$$ budget appropriations from police and first-response services.

IN SUM, DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, THE STATE HAS SHOWN THAT IT CANNOT OR WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PERMANENTLY OR RELIABLY PROTECT JOHN Q. PUBLIC UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, BE IT AS PER "PERFECT" GUN CONTROL OR EVEN IFF NO ONE HAD ANY GUNS AT ALL.

As was found out towards the end of the Cold War, even Army-Police States = Commie Secular Totalitarian States' USSR + China were found to had sufferr from horrific mass crime incidents where Guns andor "Assault Guns" as a class were NOT involved + where the State had either failed to detect what was occurring, or had the incidents quietly repressed for the sake of protecting the credibility of the Party + Communism-Socialism.

I AM REMINDED OF "RAMBO IV", NEAR THE END OF THE MOVIE WHERE AFTER KILLING ALL THE BAD GUYS + RESCUING SOME SEEMINGLY BENIGN CONSERVATIVE MISSIONARIES, THE LATTER TURN OUT TO BE LEFTY WACKOS WHOM DECIDE TO PROPERLY REWARD RAMBO FOR THEIR SALVATION BY TELLING RAMBO HE HAS TO BE TURNED IN TO VARIOUS GOVT AUTHORITIES FOR HIS GOOD DEED, I.E. FOR ALL THE BAD GUYS HE KILLED DURING THEIR RESCUE. AT THE SAME TIME, THE MISSIONARIES WEIRDLY-N-MYTERIOUSLY-BUT-ONLY-COINCIDENTALLY/PCORRECTLY ALSO SEE NO REASON
FOR MAD/MASS-KILLER JOHN RAMBO TO GET PISSED OFF AND RETURN THEM TO THE HANDS OF THEIR BRUTAL CAPTORS. LASTLY, THE MISSIONARIES ALSO DON'T SEE THE NEED FOR THEMSELVES TO VOLUNTARILY WALK BACK TO THE CAMP OF THEIR CAPTORS.

These wackos are the same kind of Waffling Politicos whom will want no one to have have a gun(s), then bitch because those that do didn't use their weapons to save the wackos' personal property(s) or loved ones, etc. when bad guys strike.

Georgian former justice minister to be officially charged
But I think we all saw this coming...
Georgian former Justice Minister Zurab Adeishvili will be formally charged on Dec. 26 in connection with the tortures in prison No 8 in Tbilisi, Georgian Chief Prosecutor Archil Kbilashvili said at a press conference today.
He said that the decision has been made.

Kbilashvili said that the investigation in connection with tortures in prisons is being intensively conducted and prosecutors scrutinize all the details.

Chief prosecutor said the charges against Akhalaia are known. The investigation is underway and it is now inappropriate to disclose the issue. Kbilashvili also stressed that the examination was conducted in connection with the scandalous photos of tortures in prisons.

"The examination was conducted to identify the photographed individuals," Kbilashvili said. "No montage was revealed."

At present, Adeishvili is not in the country and once failed to appear for questioning.

Destroy the ideology who made them a problem: in Germany people were forcefully led to visit the concentration camps, then the Nuremberg trials exposed the nature of Nazism and last but not least we ensured the governement and the education system would tell them Nazism is evil

In Afgahaniktan we set a governement led by someone who never fought the Talibans, who in fact was quite close to them, then we allowed our aid being spent on pilgrimages to Mecca (two months after the Taliban had been expelled from Kabul, Afgahanistan spent 10% of international aid on filling Saudi's coffers), we allowed arab companies to make business in Afghanistan instead of playing on Afghan national pride bruised by the Arabs of Al Quaida , we allowed a sharia-based Constitution and last but not least we banned any kind of ideological work against Islam even Deobandi, ie taliban, Islam. In fact we encouraged intensification of Afghanistan's islamization. It is like if we had alowed in fact helped the Nazi Party to operate in post-war Germany

#9  This nonsense of nation building has got to end. Sun Tzu and Napoleon both said, when you see your enemy being destroyed by civil strife, sit back and grab the popcorn.
When that bit of civil strife looks like it is running out of steam, sow strife amongst other segment of your enemy.
Rinse, repeat.

Egypt approves new constitution drafted by Mursi allies
[Rooters] Egyptian voters overwhelmingly approved a constitution drafted by President Mohamed Mursi's allies, results announced on Tuesday showed, proving that liberals, leftists and Christians have been powerless to halt the march of Islamists in power.

Final elections commission figures showed the constitution adopted with 63.8 percent of the vote in the referendum held over two days this month, giving Mursi's Islamists their third straight electoral victory since veteran autocrat Hosni Mubarak
...The former President-for-Life of Egypt, dumped by popular demand in early 2011...
was toppled in a 2011 revolution.

Opposition groups had taken to the streets to block what they see as a move to ram through a charter that mixes politics and religion dangerously and ignores the rights of minorities.

Mursi says the text - Egypt's first constitution since Mubarak's fall - offers enough protection for minorities, and adopting it quickly is necessary to end two years of turmoil and political uncertainty that has wrecked the economy.

"I hope all national powers will now start working together now to build a new Egypt," Murad Ali, a bigwig in the Moslem Brüderbund's Freedom and Justice Party, told Rooters.

"I see this as the best constitution in Egypt's history."

Islamists tighten grip on Egypt's Shura Council
[Al Ahram] The Islamist-dominated upper house of parliament (Shura Council) is due to hold two procedural meetings on Wednesday in preparation for a new parliamentary season after assuming legislative power for the first time in 32 years.

The Shura Council, which was protected from dissolution by a controversial presidential decree last month, will have the legislative authority until a new lower house of parliament is elected within two months after 64% of Egyptians approved the new constitution, according to unofficial results.
The Council was set up by late president Anwar El-Sadat in1980 as a consultative body. It also had control over state-owned press organizations.

The first opening meeting will see 90 members -- officially appointed by Islamist president Mohamed Morsi -- take the constitutional oath. The Council's speaker Ahmed Fahmi, a member of the Moslem Brüderbund's Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) and a relative of President Morsi, will deliver a speech which will be followed by a statement from Prime Minister Hisham Qandil on the country's deteriorating economic conditions.

There has been much speculation recently over whether Qandil's government will be fired or just reshuffled. Rumours are rife that the government will be forced to resign to make way for a new cabinet headed by business tycoon and influential Brotherhood leader Khairat El-Shater.

A number of senior FJP officials, such as Essam El-Erian, have repeatedly criticised Qandil's government and openly called for the appointment of El-Shater as a new prime minister to take charge of implementing Morsi's so-called "Nahda" (Renaissance) project.

Two militants, one policeman killed in Kashmir fighting
[Dawn] Police in Indian-administered Kashmire said two suspected gun-hung tough guys and a police officer were killed in a gunbattle in the disputed Himalayan region.

Police officer Manoj Panditha said in addition to the dead, one Indian army soldier was maimed in the fighting late Monday in the southern Kashmire village of Dodhiporao.

Panditha said Tuesday that police believe men belonged to the Lashkar-e-Taiba
...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI...
cut-thoat group.

There has been no independent confirmation of the incident.

Kashmire is divided between India and Pakistain and claimed by both in its entirety.

About 68,000 people have been killed since 1989 in an armed rebellion against Indian rule and in an ensuing Indian crackdown that has largely crushed the cut-thoats.
That's down from 90,000 a few years ago.
How very odd. Usually cumulative numbers run the other way. How on earth did they manage that?

Six killed as Sunni leader targeted in Pakistan
[Al Ahram] Gunmen opened fire on a car carrying a senior figure from an beturbanned goon Moslem Sunni group in the Pak city of Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It may be the largest city in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
on Tuesday, killing four coppers and two other people, police said.

The target of the attack, Maulana Aurangzeb Farooqi, was hit in the leg by a bullet and needed hospital treatment but his injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

His group, the Ahle Sunnat wa Al-Jamaat, said that he had been targeted by a rival minority Shiite group.

Bloody Karachi, Pakistain's biggest city, is in the grip of a long-running wave of political and sectarian violence involving Sunni and Shiites, who account for around 20 percent of the 180 million population of Moslem-majority Pakistain.

"At least four coppers, a guard and a driver were killed in firing by unknown gunnies," senior police official Shahid Hayat told AFP.

Bloody Karachi police chief Iqbal Mehmood confirmed the attack and casualties and said that initial investigations showed that the gunnies were on a cycle of violence, and the coppers who were killed had been escorting Farooqi.

Witnesses said that Farooqi's supporters blocked roads and burnt used tyres to protest against the attack.

Gulf council to unify members' militaries under a single command structure
The Gulf Cooperation Council will fold the military of its member states under a single command structure, Bahrain's foreign minister announced Tuesday, the state-run Bahrain News Agency reported.

The announcement came at the end of a GCC summit at a time of heightened tensions with Iran.

Foreign Minister Khalid Al-Khalifa told reporters in the capital city of Manama that the council's command would bring together "the Peninsula Shield Forces as well as the air and naval forces" of member states in the oil-rich region, BNA reported.

"It is an entity that will bring all efforts together under one umbrella," he said.

Three representatives of each of the six GCC member states have been working on a team since last year to map out the command structure, which Al-Kalifa said was in a preliminary stage.

The GCC, which comprises Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Qatar, encourages cooperation among members in a number of areas, including economy and security.

Russian military denies sending commandos to Syria
The Russian defence ministry has denied media reports about Moscow sending commando units, air defence systems operators and military equipment to Syria.

"No decisions to send commandos on board Russian warships (to Syria) have been made," Deputy Defence Minister Anatoly Antonov said. "It's all nonsense, and media speculation."
And they'll keep denying as often as necessary to worry the Syrian opposition...
On Monday, large landing ships Azov and Nikolai Filchenkov from Russia's Black Sea Fleet departed from Novorossiysk to the Syrian port of Tartus, where the Russian Navy keeps a small maintenance base. The ships are carrying naval infantry units for protection during the voyage.
They were supposed to be leaving last month but for some unexplained reason they've been in port all this time. Perhaps the Russians didn't have a sea-going tug available...
They are expected to pass through the Bosporus and Dardanelles Straits Dec 26-27 and join the Black Sea Fleet task force comprising the missile cruiser Moskva and the frigate Smetlivy in the Aegean Sea Dec 28 before heading to Tartus.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich confirmed Monday that Russia has a contingency plan for evacuation of Russian citizens from Syria if necessary.

17 killed as Yemen army, tribesmen clash: tribal sources
[Al Ahram] Yemen's army Tuesday launched an offensive against rustics suspected of repeatedly sabotaging an oil pipeline in east Yemen, sparking festivities which left 17 people dead, tribal sources said.
The dead included 10 rustics and seven soldiers, said the sources, who added that the army offensive in Marib province's Habab valley, 140 kilometres (87 miles) east of the capital Sanaa, was launched in the early hours of the morning and was backed by air raids.

The sources said the army was "randomly shelling" the area where some Al-Qaeda hard boyz joined rustics ranks in battling Yemeni troops. Marib is a major Al-Qaeda stronghold in the country.

Tribesmen, of whom 18 were also maimed according to the same sources, fought back with rocket-propelled grenades and machine guns, one source said.

The army did not immediately confirm the deaths of four soldiers.

According to official figures, lost production due to attacks on the oil pipeline in the east cost the government more than $1 billion dollars in 2012, while oil exports fell by 4.5 percent.

A tribal source told AFP that the offensive was aimed against prominent figure Salah bin Hussein al-Dammaj, who has allegedly blown up the pipeline several times to pressure the authorities to pay him 100 million riyals ($480,000) in compensation for land he claims was taken from him in Sanaa.

The 320-kilometre (200-mile) pipeline carries oil from Safer oilfields in Marib to an export terminal on the Red Sea. It produces around 180,000 barrels per day.

Head of Salafist Nour Party steps down
[Al Ahram] Emad Abdel-Ghafour has resigned from his post as head of the prominent Salafist Nour Party after growing increasingly frustrated with interference in his job from the Salafist Call, the party's front man Yousry Hammad said on Tuesday.

"Abdel-Ghafour's front within the party will hold a meeting on Tuesday to announce the withdrawal of the party's leaders and explain the reasons for that decision," Hammad was quoted as saying on Ahram's Arabic-language news website.

The decision came despite the fact that the party's general assembly had earlier declared that there would be no withdrawals until the coming parliamentary elections.

"A new party will be formed. The names being considered for the new party include El-Sahwa (the Awakening) or El-Watan (the Motherland)," Hammad added.

The conflict within the party is reportedly between Abdel-Ghafour's front and followers of influential Sheikh Yasser El-Borhami, one of the founders of the Salafist Call, a movement that spawned Nour Party in 2011.

The supreme committee of the Nour Party, which espouses an ultra-conservative brand of Islam, withdrew confidence from Abdel-Ghafour in October but he eventually stayed put.

The Salafist Call, led by El-Borhami, stood by members of the party's supreme committee in the conflict that divided the party between two fronts, the supporters of El-Borhami and those of 'reformist' Abdel Ghafour.

Abdel-Ghafour and his supporters -- known as the 'Reformist Front' within the party -- retaliated by calling for the dismissal of the supreme committee via the party's official Twitter account.

accused of planning to kidnap Israelis, the agency said on Tuesday.
The arrests were made several months earlier but a media blackout was imposed.

The two are being charged with plotting to kidnap a soldier.
"Shin Bet, with the help of the army and the Israeli police, arrested an armed cell of the PLFP that was preparing to kidnap Israelis who could serve as bargaining chips in exchange for the release of PFLP chief Ahmed Saadat, who is held in Israel," the agency said in a statement.

The two key suspects, residents of the West Bank city of the Ramallah, allegedly plotted to kidnap an Israeli soldier to be traded for Saadat, who was sentenced to 30 years in Israeli prison in 2008 over his involvement in multiple attacks.

The two are being charged before a military tribunal with plotting to kidnap a soldier. The other eight face charges of "terror activities against soldiers" and disturbing public order.

Gunmen on motorbikes shot dead two senior Yemeni security officers in separate attacks in Sanaa on Tuesday, officials said. Intelligence officer General Fadl al-Zamani of the national security services was shot dead at Bab al-Yaman, the entrance to the old city in Sanaa, a security official said, adding that the assailant had managed to escape.

In another shooting, a gunman on motorbike opened fire at Colonel Salim al-Gharbani, a member of the elite Republican Guard, in the capital’s Dar Solom district, before fleeing, another security official said. Gharbani was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his wounds, the official said.

The killers have not yet been identified but such attacks, which are becoming increasingly frequent in Yemen, have in the past been been carried out by Al-Qaeda militants.

Syria rebels kill intelligence officer
[Al Ahram] Syrian faceless myrmidons ambushed and killed a military intelligence officer near Damascus
...The capital of Iran's Syrian satrapy...
while the army pounded several rebel bastions in and around the capital, a watchdog reported on Tuesday.

"Rebel fighters ambushed the military intelligence chief in Jaramana on Monday night, after which he was killed," said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Jaramana, southeast of Damascus, is home to a majority Christian and Druze population and to pro-regime militia. It has suffered numerous rebel kabooms in recent months.

The Observatory said the army on Tuesday renewed shelling on the capital's southern districts and that fresh violence erupted on the outskirts of the capital.

's regime wants to ensure its hold on the capital so it can be in a position to negotiate an end to the nearly 21-month conflict that the Observatory says has killed more than 44,000 people.

Elsewhere in Syria, rebels seized the town of Harem in the northwestern province of Idlib, large swathes of which have slipped out of army hands, said the Britannia-based monitoring group.

"Insurgents from several rebel groups have seized total control of the town of Harem, after taking ... the army and pro-regime militia's last bases there," said the Observatory.

Pro-Assad forces surrendered to the rebels after a siege lasting several months, said the watchdog.

Syria's conflict broke out when a peaceful uprising against Assad morphed into a bloody insurgency after the regime unleashed a brutal campaign of repression against dissent.

He also noted, that the same Stuxnet worm attacks tried to hit several manufacturing industries in Hormozgan province as well.

Afghanistan
Afghan 'Green-on-Blue' Attacker Named as Iranian National
[VOA News] Authorities in Afghanistan say that a female policewoman who killed an American contractor in Kabul this week is an Iranian national. However,
those who apply themselves too closely to little things often become incapable of great things...
they have not presented any evidence that the woman has links to orc groups, or that Iran may have orchestrated the "insider attack."

The female police officer is being interrogated for killing Joseph Griffin, a 49-year-old American adviser to Afghan police. The shooting took place at Kabul's police headquarters and is being described as the first known "insider" attack by a woman.

Interior Ministry front man Sediq Sediqi disclosed at a news conference on Tuesday that the attacker, identified as Nargis, is a native Iranian and is married to an Afghan who works at the Ministry's criminal investigation department.

Sediqi said the policewoman illegally obtained her Afghan citizenship identification with the help of her husband before joining the national police force five years ago. He said she apparently acted alone.

The front man described the "mental condition" of the policewoman as "unstable" and said he has no evidence that would link her to orc groups involved in terrorist acts in Afghanistan. He said she holds an Iranian passport, but offered no evidence that Tehran was involved in the shooting.

Monday's attack has once again raised questions about the ability of Afghan authorities to manage their country's security after most foreign troops pull out of Afghanistan by the end of 2014.

"This incident shows that there are some gaps in the system and it proves that there might be many more like this particular woman who shot (to death) an American individual," said Said Mohammad Azam, a Kabul-based political commentator and a former government official.

At least 60 coalition members have been killed in such incidents this year, referred to as "green-on-blue" attacks, and they have severely undermined trust between foreign and Afghan forces as they jointly fight the Taliban insurgency.

Egypt's 'Bible-burner' asks Bassem Youssef to stop making fun of Islamists
[Al Ahram] Islamist Abu Islam Abdullah told Ahram Online over the phone on Tuesday that he will stand fiercely against recently-renowned Egyptian satirist Bassem Youssef's attempts to insult Islamic sheikhs (preachers).
"I will use the same (satirical) methods he used when I respond to him. I wil make all people laugh at him" Abu Islam explained.

"I am not a preacher; I am a professional journalist and member of the journalists' syndicate since 20 years, so, I will be able to confront him" Abu Islam said.

On Sunday Abu Islam - also known as "the Bible-burner" -- retorted with a sharp tongue on his conservative channel Al-Ummah (The Nation) demanding Youssef refrain from anti-Islamic talk in his TV programme Al Bernameg.

"I calmed my angry tone towards Youssef on Monday and I've asked him, again, to stop using slanderous scripts against respectful preachers of Islam" he added.

He described his channel Al-Ummah as one of the best TV channels on the earth and elaborated that it's monthly budget is in the neighbourhood of LE200,000 (roughly $32,000).

Youssef reacted by tweeting cynically Sunday evening to Abu Islam's criticism.

In September Abu Islam faced a charge of burning the Bible during the demonstrations in front of US embassy due to the low-budget movie insulting Islam's prophet Mohamed.

Bassem Youssef rose to fame in the wake of January's uprisings last year, with his satirical take on politicians and Islamists' arguments. He launched a weekly show Al Bernameg (The Programme), a format which was inspired by renowned American television host John Stewart's comedic look at politics, the Daily Show.

It's Official: Egypt's Constitution Approved With 63.8 Percent
Egypt's new constitution, drafted by Islamist supporters of President Mohamed Mursi, has been approved by 63.8 percent of voters in a two-round referendum, the supreme election committee said Tuesday.

The result, which followed votes held on Dec. 15 and on Dec. 22, matched an earlier unofficial tally given by Mursi's Moslem Brüderbund.

"We have seriously investigated all the complaints," judge Samir Abu el-Matti of the Supreme Election Committee told a news conference. The final official turnout was 32.9 percent.

Israel to build 942 more homes in east Jerusalem
JERUSALEM - Israel has advanced a project for 942 more settler homes in east Jerusalem closer to construction as part of a new fast-track plan to tighten its grip on the territory.

The Interior Ministry says a government planning committee moved the project to the advanced stage of asking contractors to submit bids to build them. Once a bid is awarded, construction can begin.

The homes are among some 5,000 new settler homes that Israel moved closer to construction in the past week.

Azhar cleric slams Salafist allegation of constitution 'deal'
[Al Ahram] A member of the office of Al-Azhar's Grand Imam, Mohamed Mehanna, denounces claims by Salafist preacher Yasser El-Borhami that the Sunni institution made a deal with the constituent assembly members to pass the constitution article that immunise the Grand Imam from being deposed.

"Al-Azhar is bigger than these trivial matters," Mehanna, who is also a Shura Council MP, said to pan-Arab Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper Tuesday, adding that those who make these allegations are "ill-intentioned."

In a video of a seminar El-Borhami gave in November, he's seen saying that the Salafist bloc made a deal with Al-Azhar to secure the Grand Imam from being deposed by the president in article 4. In exchange, El-Borhami claims, they teamed up with the more moderate Al-Azhar to add article 219 to the constitution, which specifies Sunni provisions as an interpretation of the principles of sharia (Islamic law).

Article 2 already references Islamic law in a general manner, but 219 entrenches it and makes the interpretation stricter according to the opposition and rights activists.

"Al-Azhar's independence does not need a constitutional text to be validated; it is an existing historical reality. Constitution or not, nobody can depose the Grand Imam outside the rules stated in its Senior Scholars Committee. Any other claims in that regard are null and void," Mehanna added.

A total of nine unidentified individuals were shot to death in Sinaloa state Christmas eve, according to Mexican news accounts.

According to a news report originating from an El Universal wire dispatch published on the website of El Porvenir news daily, the president of Concordia municipality, Eligio Medina Ríos, told the press that armed suspects entered the village of El Platanar de los Ontiveros and started shooting at residents who were on foot.

Among the dead was the spouse of a member of the village counsel.

Medina Ríos telephoned Sinaloa governor Mario Lopez Valdez to ask for emergency aid for the area.

It is unclear where in Concordia municipality El Platanar de los Ontiveros is, except that it has been noted it is in a remote mountainous area of Sinaloa state.

The report also notes that many residents of the area have fled violence, including those from the villages of La Cieneguilla, El Tiro, El Llano and Zaragoza.

Concordia itself sits on Mexico Federal Highway 40, the northern-most contiguous major east-west road in Mexico. The highway connects the seaport of Mazatlan in Sinaloa state on the Pacific coast to Reynosa and Matamoros in Tamaulipas state.

6 Killed in Attack on Nigerian Church
[VOA News] Gunmen in northeastern Nigeria killed at least six people early Tuesday when they shot up a church during a Christmas Eve service.

Officials and residents say the attack happened shortly after midnight in a village outside the city of Potiskum in Yobe state. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

Yobe is next to Borno state, the home of Islamic radical sect Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...

Rights groups say the gunnies have killed well over 1,000 people in the past four years.

Boko Haram attacked churches at Christmas in both 2010 and 2011. Last year's attacks killed more than 40 people.
Either the Nigerian government deals with these guys or else the local Christians are going to have to get some guns and start defending themselves. If it's the latter than we'll be reading all about attacks on Nigerian mosques, and we'll be reading about them in the New York Times, natch...

#1  The VOA is, as almost all media do, under reporting the Islamic angle. The headline should have read,

"Islamic Terrorists Slaughter 6 More Christians at Nigerian Church"

The first paragraph should have read,

"The Islamic Terrorist genocidal war against Christians in Nigeria continues. Terrorists groups declared the war formally in the summer of 2012 after carrying on a war for years before that. The Islamic Terrorists have slaughtered or injured thousands of Christians and destroyed or damaged dozens of Churches in the past 5 years. No UN resolution has been approved related to this and no leader of any Islamic country has denounced these persecutions.

ANP chief urges parties to take clear stand against terrorism
[Dawn] Chief of the Awami National Party (ANP), Asfandyar Wali Khan on Tuesday urged the nation to stand united against the menace of terrorism and militancy and adopt a zero tolerance towards all violations of the country's illusory sovereignty and integrity.

Addressing a presser after chairing the ANP's Consultative Committee meeting here, the ANP Chief reiterated the party's stated position that extremism and terrorist violence were a threat to the very existence of the country and appealed to all political forces to take a clear stand on this issue.

He said ANP was fighting war against terrorism for existence of the country and all political parties should also take a clear stance on terrorism.

"If the experience of the recent past is anything to go by, the Death Eaters will not forgive any political or religious parties, even those, who have literally acted as their supporters or apologists and it will be an exercise in futility to appease the terrorists," he remarked.

"We support negotiations with all those elements that recognize the writ of the state and renounce violence," he said, adding those who are not preparing to do it should face effective and meaningful actions.

He said political ownership was must for a successful operation as we have seen in Swat
...a valley and an administrative district in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistain, located 99 mi from Islamabad. It is inhabited mostly by Pashto speakers. The place has gone steadily downhill since the days when Babe Ruth was the Sultan of Swat...
and Dir. He said we are fighting against an krazed killer mindset bent on destabilising Pakistain.

Asfandyar said people of all segments of the society should express zero tolerance towards all violations of the country's illusory sovereignty and integrity. He said ANP opposed drone strikes and raised strong voices against it at every forum. However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
he said ANP also opposed terrorists' individual attacks on our soil and their networks whether it is within the country or outside.

He regretted that drone attacks were being condemned in socio-political circles openly but individuals Death Eaters strikes on ground were not being deplored as openly. Khan said that instead of defending ourselves on our doorsteps or in the streets, we should go after the terrorists' sanctuaries and evolve a national consensus on a comprehensive strategy for defeating terrorist outfits.

He said Pakhtuns in FATA and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central...
were adversely affected by the menace of terrorism and the time has come to stand united and evolve a national consensus to get rid of this menace once and for all.
